SOURCE: Hunter Fan problem

Thge black boxes are capacitors. One is a single and the other is a dual. Evidently the dual runs the two lower speeds and the single run the high speed.

You can test capacitors for basic operation with an analog voltmeter set to Ohms (Rx1 setting is best) by charging up the capacitor with the leadshooked up in one direction, and then reversing them to watch for the slight jump as the capacitor discharges back into the meter... note that this test only works with an analog meter and it must be set to ohms.

This is only a basic test for capacitors and will not indicate if it's withing specs, only that it basically works.

IMO, Hunter is known for having bad capacitors. I've just purchased two fans and already had to swap out the light kits, which contains the capacitors and switches, in one becuse of poor operation and excessive humming noise. since the other fans has the same componenets, other than being a different color, I also thought to try the light kit/capacitor assembly in the fan I've already installed before also installing the second fan.

Guess what, the other set of electircal components with the capacitors runs the fan slower and hums louder.

According to Hunter's web site, humming is a sign of poor engineering in ceiling fans (meaning a power hum rather than a hum from loose components) I agree and Lowes is about to get two Hunter fans back as my three cheapo fans that came with my house do not hum and also the one in my old house did not hum and moved more air.

Even the better capacitor set that I switched out still hums to some degree, so I'm climing Hunter's using **** components, probably becuse their chinese suppliers are screwing them and they're not bothering to keep up the quality control.

How do I replace pull chain on old hunter fan. No replacement available Home Depot gave generic switch. I don't know what wire color goes in switch L 1 2 3 Wire colors are red black blue

If that's a two speed hunter, you have the wrong switch. You need to get a two-speed switch. This switch comes with the wires attached. Do you have the fan model?

High and Medium don't work, only low

Check your capacitors to see if they're bad. That's the black box near the pull chain switch with wires going to the switch. If bad call 1-888-830-1326 Hunter parts.
2 wire part # 74132-01-000 ( probably not this one)
Other capacitor part # 74133-05-000 (probably this one)

My control won't activate the light on my Hunter fan. The light comes on via pull chain fine, and the control works the 3 speeds on the fan, but the light won't respond.

Check the wiring on your receiver to make sure the light wire is connected. You have to have the light on with the pull chain and then use the remote to turn it on/off.

Two years ago we redid our kitchen and installed a Hunter fan. About a month ago I pulled the chain to change the fan speed. It must have stripped or something because now that chain won't work at all....

Contact hunter and they will send you a replacement switch.. Its very easy to change. You do not have to remove the entire fan to do so.

Hunter Customer service is. 1-888-830-1326

Hunter does in fact make some of the best ceiling fans there are.

P.S. You might be sure that the chain simply hasn't bound up a bit.. Check to make sure its not hung on something.

3-speed fan switch broke on Hunter model 28072, cat. 300 fan. Found replacement switch at Lowes, but wiring colors are completely different from manual. What color wires go into L, 1, 2, 3 positions...

My Hunter fan uses a Zing-Ear ZE-268S6 switch. This is NOT a standard switch! It connects L to 2 AND 3 for medium speed. It is best to order the exact switch if possible. Hunter wants to sell you the entire bottom assembly (probably expensive). I found the exact switch online at:

http://www.kenselectronics.com/lists/switches.htm#Pull%20chain

for $6.80 plus $4.95 shipping. I bought an extra which didn't increase the shipping - worked great. Hunter ZE-268S6 ceiling fan connection colors: L=black; 3=green; 1=grey; 2=brown. If you need a different switch on their page, just click the Edit menu, then Find, type your part number in the box, and click Next.

3-speed switch replaced with hampton bay switch. Only low speed works.

The cause to the problem was replacing a HUNTER fan switch with a Hampton Bay switch. Before removing the old switch, I noted and marked the color and position of the 4 wires. I then duplicated the connections to the new switch.

But the wire positions of Hampton Bay vs Hunter are not identical, therefore 2 wires
were crossed.

The correct way is to note the color of the wires with the corresponding NUMBER
marked on the switches, then duplicate this on the new one.

Du-uh!
