Watching TV and all of a sudden screen was all black except for a vertical rainbow color line down the center of the screen, then all black. I do have sound. Power light is not blinking.
Does this sound like a bulb issue?..or???

Hello twisttolife,

What you have lost is horizontal deflection, this is caused by loss of the horizontal drive signal to the yoke transformers on the CRTs, for all three of these to fail at the same time is not likely so what I think is that the drive amplifier may have malfunctioned. To check this you will need:

1) schematic diagram or service manual (to determine the proper voltages and signals on the deflection board)
2) Multimeter (to measure the DC voltages on the components of the deflection board
3) Oscilloscope (to view the waveforms on the deflection board)

With these three pieces of test equipment you should be able to troubleshoot this problem.

Now if you do not have this equipment and what to take a chance at a blind guess, and just replace a board, I would suggest replacing the deflection board, this board usually contains the flyback transformer, the Convergence modules (which can cause this problem also), and the connections to the yoke transformers.

I hope this helps,

Hi I have a 55 inch LCD TV that while I was watching TV it went completely black when I turned it off and the on again there were rainbow vertical lines moving across the screen then at some points there...

My first thought would be to check your TV on multiple inputs to verify that it IS the TV and NOT isolated to your input cable(s). If you can get a solid blue color to come up on the screen by changing inputs then it would really narrow down the issue(s).
Hope this helps.

Screen went black with a vertical rainbow line down the middle

Failue of the vertical section, could be the drive, the power to the section or even some discrete componets. Unless you are familiar with electronics , get some help to ceck out on these circuits, could not be major but to get themain culprit will require good probing.

Tv screen is black except for 1 horizontal line of color

The line is there because the vertical deflection unit - the one that spreads that line across the entire screen to form the image - has failed. Replacing it is a job for a professional, or at least an experienced amateur, and the parts will be quite difficult to find for such an old tv .

Rainbow of colors on screen

I just had a rainbow of colors on my tv screen...i thought it was a problem with my TV...however the screen went the "sign off" screen (verticle lines-red/blue/green) Then all of a sudden the picture came back and all was back to normal again.

So I say it's nto your TV it is a station problem!

Panasonic PT-47WX53 does not turn on

Yes, I did try to use the power button on the TV itself. That did not work too. Yes, there is blinking red light too. I searched through several sights and found out that it is an issue with the IC 4511. I could not find a place to buy the chip.

By the way, our local TV dealer asked for $400 to fix this issue. I had already spent $400 on a different repair on this TV, 6 months ago.

Any suggestion/advice would be very helpful. Thank you again for your response.

Picture shows only about a 2-3" blue, green,or red vertical line down the middle

If your seeing vertical line across the screen you need to check the components in the vertical stage as well as the vertical IC could be bad, or the yoke could open.
Also check if any voltage reaching the vertical stage.

Good luck.

Cannot adjust convergence, screen has rainbow effect

You probably need to change out the semiconductors. The parts are STK392-110. There are two of them, one for horizontal and one for vertical. Search it online more.
