My D-Link DI-514 wireless router doesn't light up

My D-Link DI-514 wireless router doesn't even light up anymore when I plug it in.. The router's status light would fail and I would lose connectivity. I'd restart the router and it would work for a minute or so before the status light (only) fails and I'd lose connectivity. NOW, when I go to plug it back in, none of the lights light up (power light, WAN ...). I've tried reseting the unit, to no avail. Is my wireless router DOA?

Sounds like you have a bad power supply. In my personal experiences with bad routers they either don't light up at all or all the lights blink. It doesn't take much to send one to the router graveyard. Power surges and lightning strikes are the most common culprits. Hope this helps

SOURCE: D-Link DI-514 router not working after power outage

To reset your router, use the following steps:

  1. Press the reset button for 10 seconds. You can use a small object, such as a paper clip to hold down the button.
  2. Do not power off the unit while the router is being reset.
The unit should now reboot, and once the WLAN light stops blinking the router should be reset.
  3. Open up your Web browser and enter 192.168.0.1 in the address bar.
  4. For the login, enter admin as the ID and leave the password blank.
The router has now been reset.

SOURCE: D-link DI-514

The information he gave you was correct for a new DI-514 but if this has already been used it could be that the password was set. To take care of this problem, you can return the router to factory default settings by inserting a paper clip into the reset hole at the back (leave the router plugged in and turned on), hold it for ten seconds and then release. The router should reboot. Try the 192 and admin again.

My wireless router doesn't work!

Your ADSL or Internet should be turned on, if not, you may pay your ISP bill, or your ISP didn't give you Internet access.

Try using a different power cord. If that doesn't work, then the answer is "YES".

Connection and wireless network with DI-514 disappeared

there is a very small reset button on the unit. Press it and hold it for 5 seconds. This will reset it to the factory specs. Then proceed to set it up like you did when you got it new.

When connected to the wall outlet no lights are on

It could be just the power adapter problem. Try to plug it to a different outlet first. If the same problem persists, you can claim your warranty because it might that the router's power adapter is defective. The worst thing is your router is the one that is defective. If you just bought it, go back to the store where you bought it and replace it with new one

Want to use Dlink DI-514 with Qwest modem to hardwire 2 computers

Believe it or not, Actiontec modems from Qwest are setup as a router already (even though ports are missing from it). You should use a switch instead of another router. Otherwise you will have to configure the DI-514 to act as a switch rather than a router. This is done by assigning a new starting IP address into your DI-514. By default both routers use 192.168.0.1 as the default. You will have to plug the DI-514 seperately into a computer (to take it off the network) and assign a new starting IP address for the DI-514 such as 10.150.1.1 for example. Then you will be able to get it work. I would strongly recommend using a switch instead and turn the wireless on the modem itself (this is why the modem is the router). It will save you some headaches if the power goes out.

D-LINK DI-514 LAN Ports not working

  1. Connect a cable from your PC to one of the four plugs. Not the WAN port.
  2. Setup the wireless the way you want it.
  3. Then give this router a different IP, like 192.168.0.2
  4. Then you have to disable the DHCP server in the router (keep in mind now you have to set your desktop or laptop that is conencted to it to a static IP to still communicate with the router)
  5. Once this is done just plug you existing network into one of the four ports. Not the WAN port.
  6. It will now act as a wirelessa access point.
Althoug this is doable it is not recommended as this router is a pile of **** and the wireless is crappy.

I would suggest a dedicated wireless access point.

Current dlink basic want to use dling DI 514

If you want to use your former router, you just have to connect the previous router in between your modem and computer. Try turning off all the devices (modem, router and computer) for 2 minutes. Then turn on the modem first, wait for the lights to be stable then turn on the router. When the router lights are okay that is the time that you can turn on the computer and check the internet connection.

If the Internet connection still has not come back, you will have to reconfigure it for Comcast connection. You can try using the setup CD or access the setup wizard using 192.168.0.1. User name is admin and leave the password empty then run the wizard.
