Canon Pixma iP 1600 will not print

I just replaced the black ink cartridge careful to leave the empty color one in there. I keep getting error messages. It just will not print. Now I am afraid that I have changed some settings or something and I need help to know what each setting should be. I cannot find my installation CD.

Thank-you. Diane Endreas

Hi there
You can try this it some times works.

Super Canon User's method of resetting IP1600
1.Press Resume button hold for 1 - 2 minutes (count to 1 to 15-16)
2.Open the cover right away
3.Release Both cartridges out and then put cartridges them back again
4.Close The Cover
5.Turn Off Then Turn On again.

You can download the Resetter tools program from my website.

Click Link = http://www.4all2sell.com/reset-tools/ip1600st-RESETTER-TOOLS.zip
1. Download software for Canon iP1200, iP1600, 2200 Printers.
2. Unzip downloaded file by etc
3. Run GeneralTool.exe
4. Select the connected USB port number from USB PORT
5. Click LOCK RELEASE, and select the applicable model name in SET DESTINATION
6. In CLEAR WASTE INK COUNTER, select MAIN or PLATEN. The selected waste ink counter will be reset. MAIN resets the main waste ink counter, PLATEN resets the platen waste ink counter.
If both the main and platen waste ink absorbers are replaced, reset both the main and platen waste ink counters.

My canon pixma mp620 won't print black ink but other colors print ok.

Does printer have 2 black cartridges, 1 large 1 small? if so, the small black one and colors only takes care of the color print jobs and the large black one, the main black and white jobs. Make sure you don't have an empty large black cartridge.

Both lights on printer flashing

If you set to black and wite it should also print pictures by the way, it does not accept grayscale because it won't be able to print in grayscale photo quality.

Why I can't print in black and white.

It may want the cartridge in to protect the heads. Put an old empty on in. Make sure to go to Start, Settings, Printers. Select the Pixma and go to Printing Preferences. Once here set the COLOR OPTIONS to Grayscale, print black ink only.

Hope this workds for you.

good luck

Canon ip4300 color ink empty but I only want black

No, Canon does not have this facility. Also mostly greyscale is not light black but rather a mixcture of the 3 primary colours. You should have a reset/resume button on the printer - hold this in for a slow 5 seconds to de-activate ink warnings per cartridge that is giving alarms. Proceed carefully and only print text that is black so that the colour printheads do not burn out.

I put blue ink in a black cartridge and from then

Hi, you shouldn't have done that, because the color cartridge and black cartridge are not of the same make, what you need to do now is to change the cartridge, get a new cartridge to replace to troubleshoot, let see if it will print.

Compliments and wish you best of luck.

you cannot print only using color ink, you will be able to print again if you have your ink refill or replace, its a default setting to printer not to print if the black cartridge is emptry, you will continue to recieve messages regarding this black ink cartridge

Printing black & white when there's no color ink

More of a workaround than a real solution--when the error message comes up, press and hold the stop/reset button. After a few seconds, the message will go away and you can continue printing without changing the cartridge.
