Cannon Pixma MP780 won't print. Just replaced black ink cartridge, do I have to replace all of them for it to print

Printer was working fine, but seemingly ran out of black ink. I replaced the cartridge and it won't print at all. Do I have to replace all of the ink cartridges in order for it to work?

Not normally but the black print head nozzles maybe blocked.
Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

SOURCE: new cartridge won't print

re-seat the black cartidge, do head cleaning, get a windows test page (go to printers and faxes then right click on the printer icon and choose properties, click the print test page button).
replacing ink cart is the next step or service.

SOURCE: Coloured printer with black not printing?

Breath and Relax... this should resolve your problem.
Routine maintenance and keeping full ink tanks will prevent this problem, however if you have the problem you can resolve it by doing the following:
1. Clean your ip3000 print head using denatured alcohol solvent which can be purchased from most hardware stores. If unavailable, use 91% Alcohol (isopropyl alcohol (first aid antiseptic) which is available for less than a dollar at most Walmart pharmacy departments.

*Warning: You may want to use a pair of latex exam gloves as this is a messy process and can stain your fingers.

Supplies needed:
Isopropyl Alcohol or denatured alcohol
paper towels
latex gloves
sink, bowls and or basin
can of compressed air
very small screw driver
tablespoon or baby bulb type syringe
warm water
Time necessary 45-50 minutes

1. Lift print head from printer. It pulls out easily because it is held in with the same down lever that holds the cartridge in place.
2. Put two layers of paper towels in the bottom of a dish to protect sensitive sprayer heads.
3.Put enough solvent in dish to cover the screens on which the cartridges sit when in use.
4. Take the two small screws out that hold the white ceramic piece
5. Gently, pry the ceramic piece back and away , to reveal the underside (No need to pull away the glued points on the sides.)
6. Gently, move head up and down to slosh solvent around it the best as you can. Use a table spoon or syringe to pour solvent over all orifices in the print head, turning it upside down and then back a few times.
7. Use canned air with a plastic straw to blow into and through all orifices, alternately sloshing/swishing and pouring solvent over head (be careful not to touch any of the holes, screens, or sprayer heads with anything)
8. Empty dirty solvent from bowl and replace with paper towels and clean solvent. Soak for approx 10 minutes. Rinse again with clean solvent poured directly on all parts, letting solvent overrun and fall into dish or basin.
9. Gently shake the solvent off the head, take it outside and spray with compressed air into all orifices to clear out and help evaporate any remaining solvent. Let sit on a clean paper towel for approx 20 minutes. (There may be a little ink bleeding out of the head, but once it dries completely it does not present any problems.
10. Reinstall head, cartridges and it will print like a new printer.

SUGGESTION: For many years of problem free printing, keep a double set of ink cartridges, one set full at all times. Whenever a cartridge runs out of ink, replace it IMMEDIATELY, with a new one or a refilled one. This gives the print head no chance to dry out and create clogged heads. Routine maintenance of cleaning the heads every 24 months does wonders for keeping your ip3000 in new condition.

Happy Printing .

SOURCE: canon mx700 not recognizing cartridges

I suspect that your have a damaged refilled cartridge. Also, you may have a clogged nozzle. Canon printers are sensitive to the quality of the ink used in the cartridges and refill ink sometimes does not meet the manufacturer's specifications. You can check this by inserting a new OEM cartridge, running the deep cleaning utillity three times and a aligning the printhead. The other problem may be that the electronic chip on the refilled cartridge may either be damaged or blocked by dried ink. In any case, you need to discard the failing cartridge and replace it.
Let me know if this solves the problem. Thanks.

Replaced ink cartridges, printer goes through all the motions, but paper comes out blank. I have done all the maintenance steps. What gives?

Cannon ink cartridges go into a print head. This is normally a removable box the ink cartridge sits in.

First remove the head and the cartridges from it. Now try this to clean the old ink off the print head, rub/soak the print head in alcohol. Make sure the print head is complete dry and place the ink back in it and return to the printer. Try to print a page, if you have the same results you need to replace the print head.

My black ink will not print. Do I have to have

The larger of the two black cartridges is used for text only printing.

The saller cartridge is used for black in graphic images or pictures.

This saves you color ink . It allows you to put the black ink on the image without making the color inks blend the black ink.

My Pixma MP780 is suddenly printing VERY slow...

The speed of the printer could have a lot to do with the settings for photo quality. If you've cleaned it out completely and the settings for your quality still make no difference in the speed, you've damaged hardware that will have to be replaced... replacing the entire printer is usually the best option at that point.

Error: Wrong Cartridge

Yup I had the same problem and there is only 1 valid solution. Change the print HEAD. its a removeable item that is easily replaced. all you need to do is remove the ink cartridges (All) and flip up the lever where the cartridges are . This will allow for the removal/replacement of the head assembly. You can alays try cleaning this head assy with (Ammonia D) just in case you are one of the lucky one just to have a defective connection. Note: Worked for me and everyone else I ever saw with this error. (I bought my head on ebay)
