Re:
The cartridge could be bad. The cartridge might not be in slot well. And the printer could also be bad. The software might need to be uninstalled and then reinstalled restarting your computer several times as well to reset everything. Try downloading printer drivers and software from printer maker support page.

you need to use the menu on the printer and find the selection that says printer options-> ink cartridge-> new ink cartridge. what happened is you never told you printer that you were installing a new cartridge so it thinks that its still the old one. The printer actually never checks cartridge levels it just makes predictions based on how many pages you have printed.
No. You need all the cartridges installed with functioning chips for your printer to work. The reason why you need all the colors when all you print is black is because a small amount of color prints when you print black. The manufacturers want to make up their R&D costs on the printers by selling lots of expensive ink.
Get yourself a couple of sets of empty cartridges from cobraink.com.
It is so easy to fill your own from the removable rubber cap, on the top of the cartridge. Not to mention what you will be doing for the environment.
I have been using these for over a year and have saved a ton of money
This man also sells the ink that you will need. ALSO tell him to send them empty, otherwise he will automaticly send them full of "pigment "ink, because you want to use an ink dye

look at the ink cartridge and and first see if the ink covers the top of the cartridge. there is a little part of the ink cartridge the best way to explain it, is there is a tab,. that tab goes into a sensor. if the tab has ink on it, then you mostly like have a problem with the sensor itself. but if there is no ink, the printer is correct. i have had several people bring printers with those type of problems, and when they bring the cartridge i look at it, and they are practically empty.
If the firmware update doesn't work, you can reset this error.
Unplug unit. Remove offending cartridge. Plug unit back in, wait until
all startup noises have stopped. Open lid and reinstall cartridge. This
will solve the fault as long as the sensor is working.
Also, please be aware, you should not have to change a cartridge if it says "Near Empty", only if it says "Ink Empty Magenta".
Also, please make sure none of your other cartridges are empty. I have
seen this over and over. Two cartridges empty at the same time, and the
person replaces one of them but thinks they actually replaced the other
one.
Turn the power off and pull all the cartridges out. Look a the side of
the cartridge, you should see a window with a little plastic tab
sticking out. This tab should be blocked by a black float inside the
cartridge. If you cannot see the float, and the tab is clear with no
ink in it and no float tab blocking it, it means the cartridge is empty
even if you still see some ink in the bottom.
To be sure plug the machine in without any cartridges. When all the
noises have stopped, open the lid and install the cartridges. If you're
still getting an error saying either a cartridge is not installed or is
empty, then one of your cartridges is empty. Redo the previous
paragraph.
