It's in the channel programming menu. It should say, "Cable/Ant" or "Cable/Air" If you want a roof antenna with local channels, change it to "Air/Ant" Then click auto program with the antenna hooked to it to scan for free local channels.
I assume from your question that you have a cable subscription and that you have the cable plugged into the ANT input via a co-ax cable. The ANT input is for an antenna for over-the air signals. The channel up/down change the internal tuner up/down. For example, if your cable is set to channel 3, it will pull in the cable on channel 3, but then try to pull in over-the-air if you hit channel-up to channel 4.
It seems you need some kind of converter box from your cable company in order to change the cable channels, and then that converter box would plug into either the ANT input (and leave the tuner on 3) or into one of the other inputs like Component, HDMI, SVideo etc.
The tv will only process cable channels when set to 'ant cable' . After the scan, you should be able to view all channels provided on the frequency. If you want more cable #'s, you will have to pay for those or get a cable box. If you don't find your local channels in the lineup, you will have to use a switcher, or hassle with unplugging and plugging the antenna. This is true for ATSC broadcasts. Please give feedback if this helps. Or tell me more.
Your hookup is correct- Your VCR needs to be tuned to channel 3 or 4, to match the cable box.
Also, the VCR channel output needs to be matched to the TV. If VCR menu options are displayed on the TV then this part is right. If not, then set either the VCR or TV to the correct channel.
ANGLS186-YES YOU CAN RESOLDER THE ANT. IN COAX CONECTION BUT KNOW YOU MUST FIRST SOLDER THE CENTER WIRE OF COAX TO TUNER BD. THEN CAREFULLY INSERT COAX BACK INTO ORIGINAL POSITION.THE EASIER SOLUTION IS TO USE A VCR OR CABLE BOX HOOKED TO YOUR SETS' VIDEO IN PORT AND CHANGE CANNELS W.THAT COMPONENT.JOE TV
First check and see if you are on Cable or Ant. It sounds like you are on ant. Change it to cable. If you are on cable then it's you tuner, you need to replace it.
