You said your monitor will be on for little bit and then would not power up anymore... there are two possible reasons why this problem occur..
1. You need to check if the high voltage ballast transformer of your backlight inverter is about to be burned... the transformer is overheating..that's why you experience the monitor working for a couple of minutes and then it will shut off until the transformer cool down again and then it will be ready to work again...
2. You need to check the power supply section for possible loose connections and blown capacitors.. the ballast transformer has direct effect on power supply section.. when there is overheating transformer,,, the supply current from the power supply section becomes unstable.. and will not be able to supply the remaining good working ballast transformer.
In case you do not know, the ballast transformer generates high voltage for the backlight inverter to work..The backlight inverter is the light source that is responsible for the image display of your screen...If the ballast transformer is not working or if the backlight is busted then the only thing that you will see in your screen is black....
Please be advise that if you don't have the knowledge, the proper skills and the right tools to open the back cover of your monitor and replace its part...don't risk it...
Otherwise, bring your unit to a credible technician and avail of warranty if there is any.....
Much appreciated if you rate this help...thanks...
This is a typical symptom of a failure of the capacitors on the power supply board. When the filter capacitors go bad the power supply can not start up correctly so you get flickering or even no display. You can repair this unit by replacing the bad capacitors and a fuse on the power supply. This is an easy repair, it just requires a little soldering. Here is a lin to additional information on which capacitors need to be replace and also here is a picture of the power supply board with the capacitors and fuse circled. http://www.ccl-la.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=229
Could be the power module or the backlights (more likely backlights if the "luminance" varies)- $156 sounds a little high but not insane, but you realize cost of replacement is lower, do you not?
Your samsung monitor has a bad power mosfet connected to your backlight driver. Or if not you have a bad backlight or bad capacitor's. This problem is normal to samsung syncmaster monitor.
Yes, It sounds like the backlight inverter circuit is shutting down. No inverter power, no backlight. On some monitors the inverter circuit will shot circuit the power power supply which makes the power light flash on some it just kills the backlight. You can usually check with a flashlight. Hold the flashlight pointed at the screen and see if you can see any of the icons or background picture. If you can then it is the backlight circuit or backlight tubes, usually the circuit.
your monitor power light is on? lcd? maybe a backlight issue? have you tried a different monitor? if the pc is booting up it may be the monitor, if your pc is not, yes it could well be the processor or the motherboard itself.
On the bottom of your monitor or on the right side is a set of buttons one is for brightness and contrast try to reset the brightness and then contrast. If this does not work you may need a new monitor.
