It's a firmware error.
Do ALL your print jobs give this error. If it is just one job that causes the error, something is corrupted with the software.
If every print job causes the error, it's the printer. Try printing after removing DIMMs from the printer. If you can try plugging the printer into another port on the computer or router.
When all else fails, go to www.hp.com/#support and download the latest firmware and install it.
By all means READ the directions first.

Sounds like a faulty sensor. Buy a can of compressed air blow it throughout the printer. Sometimes toner dust sits on the sensors giving a false reading. If after this you still get an error you're going to need a printer engineer!

Go into the control panel, select the printer, select printing preferences, select finishing, put a checkmark in box where it says "print both sides"

Do the test print, from the printer's built in menu system, that shows the cartridge serial number.

You'll find that the serial numbers of the cartridges that produce this 'problem' are a different length than ones that don't.


There is ar firmware update ecommended for HP Color LaserJet 2605 series printers that have a version prior to 20071108. This utility updates the printer firmware version to 20071108. Your printer's current firmware version can be found on the Self Test/Configuration Page which can be printed from the printer's Reports menu.

Use the bundled disc to install the drivers. If you do not have Vista drivers with it, you can download them from the hp site

Sherry, in all probability it is the "scanner assembly" HP can fix this for $279 in the US using HP Express exchange 1 day ship, this was the result of their active chat. well, the density is actually a combination of two aspects. The original document settings, especially in color transforms. Usually, the software will have a transform specific for the printer. In my experiences, trying to tweak the printer for each print job, can cause extreme frustration. Check the software manual for settings for your printer, and perhaps you'll get closer to this solution.
