You don't need a driver.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

SOURCE: Canon IXUS 970 IS Digital Camera Lens error

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

SOURCE: how to fix digital camera canon ixus 70 'lens

Would not recommend opening the camera as the chances are much greater for you causing greater damage. BUT would instead recommend that you try the seven sequential repair step outlined for a lens error in the below listed Related Link "Fixing a Lens Error on a Digital Camera". None of the steps outlined in this link involve opening the camera. and reportedly you should have close to a 50% chance of success with these techniques.

If you cannot repair the lens yourself with the first related link, then consider trying the two 'Digital camera repair" links below for two online digital camera repair businesses.

This camera is designed to store images and videos to a memory card, not to stream them to a computer. It cannot be used as a webcam.

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel after dropping it. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful.

Regards
Andrea

Hi, Unfortunately that's a well known issues with the Canon SD1200. There's no way to fix it as the issue is the engine built into. The way equivalent model to it in this years line up, which doesn't have that issue is the Elph 100.

My canon SD1200 camera wont connect to my computer. its plugged in and turned on but it wont recognize it. how do i fix that?

There can be several reasons for this, try these in this order;

- unplug your camera from the computer. Make sure your computer has the latest driver for this camera
here is a link for some drivers: Canon Driver make sure to scroll down and select your operating system. Once it is installed, restart your computer and try again.
- reset all the settings on your camera to the default settings, your manual will show you how to do this.
- in order to at least salvage the pictures you can view the memory card directly either plugging it into your computer directly or if you don't have a slot for this card, you can use a card reader. these are sold in any electronics store and are quite cheap.

Canon powershot sd1200is--suddenly won't take pictures. power on, screen black. camera was working fine, then not at all.

Reset the camera. Go to menu button, the arrow right to settings and tools, scroll all the way down to RESET settings. Hit Func/Set button to bring up reset option, arrow right to OK and hit Func/Set again to say yes. Camera should have picture again.....at least this is what we did to fix a camera that did that to us. good luck
