It sounds like the small silver piece that fell out of your BISSELL Powerforce Helix may be the motor brush. The motor brush is a small, spring-loaded carbon block that makes contact with the motor to conduct electricity. If the motor brush falls out or is not installed correctly, it can cause the motor to make a loud, high-pitched noise.
To fix the problem, you should locate the motor brush and try to reinstall it. The motor brush is typically located near the motor on one or both sides of the vacuum. You may need to consult the user manual or contact BISSELL customer service for specific instructions on how to access and install the motor brush.
If the motor brush is damaged or missing, you may need to purchase a replacement motor brush from BISSELL or a vacuum repair shop. Once you have replaced the motor brush, the high-pitched noise should go away and the vacuum should operate normally.
hmmm some of the vacs i see having a brush bar are powered by the vac motor via a belt system or by means of a extra brush bar motor and belt make sure both are replaced (mind ya mostly its just the belt thats broken and need replacement)
Is this the Lightning model? How old is it? You may have to just replace the belt.
Also, the front brush motor will not engage until the power is turned on and the handle is in the down position. In the upright position the brush motor wont engage. Typical faults will be the belt is broken and needs replacing or the fornt brush motor needs replacing.

Check the brush. That could be the problem. Check the belt also. Your brush roller may need to be lubed or even replaced.Turn it over and wipe all the black residue off the bottom of it.------Either the brush is getting clogged and blocked by dirt, hairs etc etc and that needs to be cleaned or the brush bar motor is got faulty and needs to be replaced.-------You can yourself replace this motor,m if its not running.-------To get instructions to disassemble the vacuum and replace the motor, click this link below :---http://howtobyme.blogspot.com/2011/08/brush-not-turning-on-dyson-ball-dc24.html-----------This will-help.Thanks.Helpmech.
You need to remove the plate underneath that covers the rotor brush wheel. It used to be you didn't need a screwdriver, but these days you do. Then remove the rotor brush (it will lift right out). You should also see the old belt in there and if it's not broken, note where it attaches to the small rotary motor pulley and the brush. If it's broken, simply replace it by first looping a new one around that motor pulley and then the brush. Replace the brush and it may be tight but it needs to be.
If you can see the arcing you are likely in the motor housing. The brushes are specific to the motor depending on RPM. Most brushes and motors in Sears units are supplied by AMTEK Lamb. The color on the plastic housing and stamped model # on motor will help identify the correct carbon brush, however new brushes will NOT always solve your problem if the motor is arcing. If the armature is worn like an apple core or if the lines between segments on the copper commutator are gaping and not parallel you will need a new or rebuilt motor. If brushes are properly removed there is a tiny flag terminal which will slide out of most brush housings where the wire meets the brush itself. New brushes are best installed after dressing the armature surface with a fine carbarundum seating stone or very fine wet dry sandpaper and then the motor is run in at half speed at reduced voltage. |There is usually a hold down clamp over each brush to seat it and a lock tab underneath to align the new brush.
The front brush motor will not engage until the power is turned on and the handle is in the down position. In the upright position the brush motor wont engage. Typical faults will be the belt is broken and needs replacing or the fornt brush motor needs replacing.
Does the power head motor stop, or does the brush roll stop. If it is the brush roll stopping, replace the belt and/or the brush roll. If it is the motor, you may need to clean out around the motor, it may not be getting enough air to cool causing it to overheat and stopping. That the brush roll plate off, take out the screw, and the top will come off, then you can check to see if cleaning is the answer, if not, the motor may be bad.
