Remove the lens and then look through the viewfinder at a blank wall or out a window (not directly into the sun!). Do you still get the red hue? (Nothing will be in focus. Don't worry about that. We just want to see if the color is still there.)

When taking photos, the image is not captured when using liveview

Sure you are pressing the shutter realise button half, so the camera can focus?
Only when the middle AF-point (square in the middle) becomes green and you hear a beep, you can press the button compete to make the picture. With live view, you degrade your camera to a point and shoot. Focusing takes longer that way. Can be handy is special situations, but the focusing could be a pain, when you are used of taking pictures trough the view finder.

Canon Power Shot SX10 IS - I've had camera for about 4 months. As of a week ago, I can only use small view finder for taking photos; the 2.5 screen for viewing does not work now. Able to view photos...

You can reset the camera to factory settings. If after that, you still have the same problem, make valid the Canon warranty since it's 4 months old.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX8 camera and the viewing screen is black

You have a button on your camera for the view finder on top of the camera so you can look through and take a picture : or you can see the picture your going to take on the screen.Push that button and it will change it back . I learned this the hard way . I also thought I broke my camera.
