Hello everyone, great thread and website, very impressed by the great information on here. I wont go on posting links to our many many stories about this topic unless you all request me to, as many sites see this as spam.

We are developing tools to help those people that are having major issues with loosing data on microSD cards. Many of the cards produced these days are becoming damaged, bent etc. There is no rhyme or reason for these issues, they just happen. microSD's showing a size of 31MB is becoming common, it's a bad situation, it means the card is badly damaged. You will need assistance from an educated professional. :) Yay, right? Well there are some that DO know what's up here. This I promise. :victory:

We are consulting directly with NASA and act as the primary lab for such cases daily, we are in business for over 15 years. There is a sense of desperation these days in dealing with damaged and lost data on microSD's. We are at about a 45% success rate no matter what has happened to a microSD. Many of them are reported as the wrong size, many are not recognized and some have obvious issues such as breaks, cracks etc.

No matter what others say anywhere there is hope for you all that have major issues. microSD cards are considered monolith devices (monolithic). USB sticks and regular SD cards these days can be made with NAND wafers or a complete package, what we call in the industry a monolith storage device. We can get inside these devices by taking off layers with special machinery and we also can use many other options to get around the damage.

I am also looking to collaborate with others on this topic that are engineering minds with experience on this topic. It's a big problem these days as we dig into iPhones, SSD's etc. We are dealing with all storage devices, mostly new technology and we have a global network with some amazing gear-heads to solve all these problems... but I am trying as fast as possible to increase the success rates and expand knowledge on such data recovery cases so please let me know if you are interested in staying in touch ongoing.

I will only say below in my signature who we are and hope we can share and help this thread and community with future success stories, if anyone has questions and MUST have a solution feel free to reach out to me/us.

Format it and check,
If no change I guess your SD card has damaged and not repairable

The reader may need re-iinstalling. or the port you are putting it in is incorrect,. try another stick to test the port or try the memory card in another PC to confirm the stick is OK

SOURCE: pc not recognizing sandisk micro sd

The Card Reader you are using is probably not compatible with SDHC Memory Cards (High Capacity SD). You may need to get an SCHC compatible reader or check the website for your product to see if the is a driver update. You can get a new reader for about $20 bones if needed. I had the same issue.

SOURCE: problem with reading Sandisk 4gig hc micro sd card in my computer and laptop

The problem is that a 4 GB micro sd card is HC (High Capacity). You will need to buy a card reader that can read HC micro sd cards (cost +/- € 8).
Very important: check if your mobile phone works with high capacity micro sd cards because a lot of phones don't work with HC micro SD cards.

Don't forget to rate, thks

SOURCE: micro sd card not working

I'm having the same problem with a Transcend 4GB microSDHC card / microSD adapter. I have also found it probably has something to do with the card reader...either the card reader is an SD card reader trying to read an SDHC card OR the card reader is not able to read high-gigabyte SD cards (over 1 GB in some cases).

I have 4gb micro sd card whin i format it show me 3.69 gb

1 GB = 1024 MB (mega bytes)
1 MB =1024 KB (kilobytes)
1 KB = 1024 bytes
1 GB = 1024*1024*1024 bytes
1 GB = 1073741824 bytes

But manufacturers count 1GB as 1000000000 bytes, so it's normal that a sd card which advertise being 4GB is in reality 3.7GB (4000000000 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 = 3.72 GB).

Your Finepix F10 does not support SDHC (High Capacity) memory cards.
You can only use standard SD cards with a maximum capacity of 2GB.

New technics are not always backwards compatible, sorry for that.

Cannot install 4GB card into TL220. Do I have the

According to Samsung's page on this camera, the following memory can be used:

External Memory(Optional) : Micro SD (up to 4GB)
Micro SDHC (up to 8GB)

4 GB is acceptable, but I think you do not have the correct type of card. You should be using a Micro SD or "Micro Secure Digital" (up to 4GB capacity) or a Micro SDHC or "Micro Secure Digital High Capacity" (up to 8 GB capacity) card. This is very different from an SD or SDHC card. These Micro cards are very small (smaller than your thumbnail) and are often packaged with an SD adapter card. Regardless if sold with or with out the adapter, the package should say Micro SD or Micro SDHC on it somewhere.

I can not format my memory card

Make sure that the device you are using specifically is to Micro SD High Capacity format and not just Micro SD. If it says just micro SD on the manuals or on the unit, it can only use a 2gb card.

4 GB micro sd and the Sandisk Sansa e250R...

If the 4gb micro SD is a high capacity SD (it will say micro SDHC on it) your player may not be able to read SDHC cards, my sansa can't because it's the 'older version' it will read 2gb and below micro SD cards though (it sucked when I found out because I had just bought a 6gb micro SDHC)
