My machine does everything but spin. It fills and drains but while it's draining it it's very loud like it's trying to spin but just can't. Could it be the main motor switch?
K, got this licked. 110 kenmore washer is a direct drive washer. the problem when it does everything fine but won't spin is in the transmission. took the motor trans assembly out. removed the cover for the transmission. removed the first big nylon gear on top and revealed 2 sets of swing arms. be careful to note how everything is assembled here. technically difficulty would be expert. the small nylon arm is worn. i drilled a small hole on the end at contact point and put a brass thumbtack to compensate for the wear on the swingarm. then filed the brass tack so that it would comply with the profile necessary once the gear was back in place. filled the trans back up with 20-50 motor oil. cleaned and sealed the case and reinstalled. I now have spin cycle. yay!!! ultimately the problem comes down to wear on the nylon swingarm. if you hear a faint click and no spin when in spin cycle this is most likely your problem. if you hear tons of noise you may be looking at a bad clutch. adios amigos!!
