Step 1:
Click start Control Panel. Select "User Accounts and Family Safety," then "User Accounts." Click "Turn User Account Control on or off." Remove the check mark next to "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer." Click "OK." Set All Accounts to Administrator Still in the UAC section of Control Panel, select "Manage another account," and click on a user account. Click on "Change the account type." When working with multiple accounts, some changes can only be made if you and the account holder are both logged in with "Administrator" accounts so you need to change all user accounts to "Administrator." When you are done making changes, you can change them back to "Standard," but always leave at least one "Administrator" account. Select the "Administrator" radio button. Click "Change Account Type" at the bottom right. Repeat this procedure to change each user account to "Administrator." When all user accounts have been changed, close the Control Panel. Create a Full Administrator Account Click "Start" (the Windows Vista icon in the lower left of your screen). In the Search box, type "cmd". Right-click on "cmd," and select "Run as Administrator." An elevated command prompt window will appear. At the command prompt, type "net user administrator /active:yes", and press "Enter." Choose a password and assign it to the "Administrator" account, by typing "net user administrator 'password'", where 'password' is your selected password. For instance, if your password is "abc," type "net user administrator abc". Press "Enter." Type "exit" and press "Enter." Log off. When you log back into your "Administrator" account, you will have full rights.

SOURCE: need to format the hard drive for HP Pavilion

If you own the computer and it is still in warrenty then i would call up HP and explain the situation and have them send you a recovery disk, if it is not in warrenty they may still do it but if it doesnt work your other option is to purchase one or to Pirate one which wouldnt be illegal if you used the product key that came with your computer.

SOURCE: HP Pavilion Slimline s3122x powers up fan runs

Hi Im Rain.
I may have bad news for you. Its a very bad sign when your keyboard and monitor are not working at the same time. Sounds like the technician was right.
I also think its your motherboard. If you really just like the computer you can invest in another motherboard.

Testimonial: "Thanks so much. I appreciate your help. A new motherboard will probably cost more than a new pc. Thnaks for such a fast response."

I have a HP Pavilion Slimline running Windows 7. I had to replace the motherboard with ASUS F2A55 - MLK. Now I get a 'Configuration Error' when I boot-up.

HI,

You cannot just replace the motherboard and then install the same Hard Drive and expect it to work. It CAN work, but you have to prep your Hard Drive before you switch motherboards.

Your Operating System, if already installed on your Hard Drive, is configured/locked to your old motherboard. You would have to run SYSPREP or some other software on your COMPLETE system before switching out your motherboard, to UNBIND all the hardware and drivers already installed in your Operating System. This would make it ready to be installed in a new computer system... which yours is with a motherboard change.

The only option that I am aware of is to completely reinstall your Operating System from scratch... however, if your old motherboard is still functional, you might be able to put your old system back together and then run the appropriate software (search online), which could save you some time.

Does not show songs that were previously synced

Hi,
1. Make sure you Windows Media Player 11 (Goto Help --> About WMP --> v??) 2. If you do not have it, install it from this location: http://www.microsoft.com/mediaplayer  3. Change the Mode on Device: Go into Menu --> Settings --> USB Mode:Auto Detect/MTP/MSC  4. Select MSC and it should work. If it does not try Powercycling your device (turn it off and then turn it on). 5. Try other modes as well.

I downloaded a copy of windows vista and it expired,im trying to reinstall my hp windows xp recovery cd and its asking me for a password, cant remember if i ever did set up a password for this pc.how can...

Hello,

At what point is it asking for a password? Has the computer formatted the hard drive yet? It sounds like you might be going in to Recovery Console instead of installing a fresh copy of Windows.

What you want to do is press Enter at the first screen, agree to the license, and then format your hard drive. After that, it will go through the installation without asking for a password. Remember - you'll lose all your data when you format.
