Use flashfxp make sure you have a crossover cable if hooking it directly computer assign a ip address on your computer (turn off dhcp) and it should work

Hi loads of people are having the same problem, xbox live must be
having some downtime or server issues if you was the only one then it
could be your end but in the last hour their have been loads of posts
regarding this problem and all users are getting the same message.
try switching you xbox off and back on and if it still dont connect
then your going to have to wait i would try again in an hour or two,
usually down time for the servers is a couple of hours while xbox
install updates to xbox live, its not a problem your end so dont get
changing any settings, the problem is with xbox live so just bare with
them and it will sort itself out.
the last time this happened was about 6months ago and the downtime was
just over 4 hours, so bare with them for a bit and it will be sorted.
you could try logging into the xbox site on the net and not through
your xbox and check the xbox chat rooms and you will be able to find
out more their.

ok but did you remove the old copy first, remove it and clean your registry it is probably storing the old info in your registry and is saying to its self , why do they need another, treat it as a fresh install remove everything
No its not down, im in matchmaking right now and is it any of your settings maybe? Its a problem with your server because thats why its saying about retreiving information from the server. i dunno what thingy to put it in so i put it in solution
every computer has an ip adress you might have to go to your internet setting and find some thing that says some thing like... internet adress hook up hopefully you keep files on your computer becuase with out your ip adress you might not be able to hook up its sorta like a combination hope it helpes:)
The Xbox 360 cannot access the internet through an ethernet cable that is connected to your laptop. You have to connect your Xbox 360 directly to your modem or to some form or router.
please look at the windows media player settings,click on library go to media sharing and enable the xbox..also check the type of network you configured..a private network will enable to share..look in the network and sharing settings for that..hope it helps! i had gone nuts when i had the same problem!!make sure that your computer is on the same network as the xbox.
