I have to pull both the inside door handle and the lock below the handle simultaneously to open the driver's door from inside. How do I diagnose and fix problem?
The plastic lock and door latch handle are probably breaking. Common problem. A new handle combo from Ford is not very expensive and will only take an hour or two for a DIY novice to R&R.
Pull on the outside handle up once, then reach inside through the open window and unlock the door, try this and it may correct it self

The plastic door handle is broken.
You will need to get a replacement door handle.

Sound like you have a dammaged door latch assembly. It is a pain but you have to take the insid door trim panal off to see what you are doing and make sure the latch assy is un locking. Dis connect power door lock motor linkage to make sure motot is not jaming the lock in the lock possition.

use the fob and keep clicking unlock/lock button see if everything is moving.then try banging outside of the door about 6 inches from door handle while pressing unlock.has worked on some other cars like vw audi and vauxhall

the linkage behind the handle either the retaining clip broke or popped off need to remove the door panel to check and fix

the inside door hanger came off you need to remove inside door panel a couple of screws and need to pop off panel to replace hanger
