1995 chevrolet blazer LS 4.3L Model:S10506-my reverse went out, what do I do? All the forward gears work fine, I just took a 10 hour trip with it. Before the reverse went out it always acted a little funny(in reverse). It would kinda shudder when gas was applied during reverse and then one day reverse was gone.
The "sun shell" or reaction shell broke inside the transmission< if you notice 2nd gear is also gone or working funny. Transtar makes a hardened shell that costs about 40$ but you need to remove the transmission to fix it, and overhaul is best. The burnt fluid smell is because the torque converter has been slipping when you are on the highway, sonex makes a repalcement valve that should be installed by a train proffessional. Solution is rebuilt trans with new converter and parts i have listed in the paragraph
I would get an auto technician to have a look at the transmission. It sounds as though you need your box overhauling or a replacement box.

What does the fluid smell like? If it smells burnt, time for a new trans.
