Hi,
does the view finder work ?
if yes, there must be the flat ribbon cable that may have been moved and disconnected, but if the view finder doesn't work too, there must be a board inside or a connector that has been moved (connectors a sometimes sensible to chocks, an in between the boards there are connectors too...) the LCD controler-processor board for exemple.
cheers

SOURCE: Sony TRV-19 Camcorder - Black screen in camera mode

Fixed it, at least temporarily I had the side off my trv250 examining it, especially the CCD connection. I had read the post about soldering a capacitor to pins 1 and 3 (from the left) on the bottom row. I didn't have the specific capacitor on hand, but I started touching some of the small ones I did have to those pins. I found that after I touched a 100uF, 10V cap to pins 1 and 3 the picture suddenly came back to life and stayed that way after removing the cap. I have no idea how long this will last, and I've set up the cam on a tripod in the livingroom with the LCD display facing me so I can monitor it. If you, like me, figure you have nothing else to lose, you might want to give this a try. Note: my camera was suffering from the green smeary horizontal lines problem, and wasn't completely black. I'm not sure if this makes a difference or not.

SOURCE: Black LCD and out of focus

My LCD screen has also malfunctioned - some-one else has also posted a similar problem and has been told its to do with a carbon cable connecting the LCD screen to the camera that needs replacing.
Not sure about the viewfinder problem - is there a control to adjust the focus, or is that what you mean by the viewfinder lever?

What does demo mode mean on the sony hdr cx 405 camcorder. been trying to record and it only will record about three minutes of what i actually want to record. should this be turned to off or what.

I would imagine, although I am not familiar with this model, that demo mode means just that - sufficient recording time to demonstrate the camcorder's capabilities. Is there an option in the menu system to turn off demo mode ? Or, you could always look in the manual.

Sony HDR XR550 has developed a problem

Taken from page 22 usa manual

Notes
If you close the LCD screen while recording movies, the camcorder stops recording.
The maximum continuous recordable time of movies is about 13 hours.
When a movie file exceeds 2 GB, the next movie file is created automatically.
It will take several seconds until you can start recording after you turn on the camcorder. You cannot
operate your camcorder during this time.

When I turn on the power to my sony hdr cx-150 the display is grainy and it records grainy. Why? Please Help

First see if the grainy feel is evenly spread over the video or screen , Have your front lens checked up by yourself for any dirt . Do clean it with a swab dipped lightly in surgical spirit or cleaning solution .Check for the settings in your camera for display resolution and recording resolution . Change both to the maximum/STD and you will be ready to go . How to do it can be found from your owners manual .If you find it difficult to get the settings , save your data to a pc or cd and then reset your camera to factory settings , which is easily findable in the menu - settings
