Are all of the CD's clean and free of finger prints?

If not, use very warm water and a liquid soap.

wash the CD's in one direction and *NOT* in a circle, loop. Dry after rinsing the same way.

Please let me know asap. Are you using Media Player or an add on software like nero?

Update the drivers and check, also try and use a lens cleaner on the drive and if the DVD does not read then the drive is faulty and must be replaced. Finally you can check this on another PC to confirm.

After I reinstalled my pc, the toshiba dvd-rom (sd-c2502) only plays cds, not dvds.

Try re-installing your the driver for your dvd rom. Then try to put different dvds and check if it can read from your drive. If problem remains, I suspected it's your dvd rom is faulty
