Radio shack didn't have thethe 8 A only the 1/2A the guy told me to try it and if it doesn't go on at all that it's the power supply board
Load fuses are rated. The ratings will be marked at the PCB, very near to the fuse holder. Do not use a fuse, which have more ampere ratting than specified. It will make things worse. If fuse burns out, as soon as the set is switched ON, be sure that there must be some shorted component/s at the power supply regulator section circuit. Check and rectify the fault first, before inserting an other fuse of same rating.

Where would an 8 (eight) amp fuse be used on a modern digital TV? Original fuse rating absolutely correct?
Now, even if there is such thing, the replacement must be the SAME rating. 8 amps means the set would be operating at some 400 watts (?) and blow on an instant short at some 8 amps.
You replace the fuse with a HALF amp, it will blow INSTANTLY, even if the set is new and working fine. Elemental. RS should refund your money.
Besides, Radio Shack doesn't employ electronics technicians, just ordinary sales clerks with minimal training, and that, at SELLING merchandise, NOT resolving electronics problems.
Most likely, shorted component in the Power Supply, but need schematic of unit to test, isolate, and replace, without un-soldering a lot of parts with risk of additional damage. Volt/Ohm meter essential, plus soldering experience in delicate PC boards. Could be a TV tech job.

A ceramic fuse stands up to heat better than a non-ceramic fuse. I'm no pro, but it sounds like your power inverter board maybe bad. There are replacements out there. Good luck

Hi, do you know from what area the smoke came from?
4 Amps seems a little high. Sounds like power transistors have blown, maybe even a capacitop or a main filter cap has gone short.
Sorry i can't help much, is there anywhere inside that would indicate a different manufacturer?
Board numbers, chassis numbers , i will try and help.

Hello,
All you need to do is to open the back cover of the television to check for burnt transistor , this is always the problem , for you to fix this it require a basic knowledge on electronics,
Your power supply board is not yet dead, u know basic electronics' and soldering? Most of the times, the power supply board just have dead leakages gases capacitors. These capacitors always bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these gases leakages capacitors will get your TV power stable, and work again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.
I hope this will help out in solving the problem
