Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W30 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Hey! I have a cybershot DSC w30 camera and it's great, but the camera is always telling me to turn it on and off. The lens always goes in and out about 3 or 4 times. I can't think of anything that would cause the problem! Do you know how to reset my camera? It would be a lot of help.

I have a sony cybershot DSC- W30. Its the third camera I have had in a year and half with the same problem. I switch the power on.....the lense moves in and out about 3 or 4 times. Then camera then beeps and am asked to switch the camera off and then on again. I can view my photos but it will not let me take pics or even see through the screen (it remains dark throughout). The troubleshooter guide does not even mention this problem and its too much for sony to repair.

Here's the link for the user guide;®ion_id=1 Check page 92 for a description of all the reasons why it may be telling you to turn on and off - let me know which if you can figure that out from the manual. Check page 46/53 for details of the reset all function. what sort of memory card setup do you have? - probably unrelated, but sometimes memory card faults can make cybershots behave oddly. How old is the battery pack? - do you have any chance to try another battery pack (from a friend or in a store perhaps) to check if the problem is there? Sometimes a battery that appears to work can still have problems. Are you in a very humid environment? - try to keep the camera in an air-conditioned room or a slightly warm dry place for a couple of days, turn it on once or twice through the couple of days. see if that makes a difference. Have you dropped the camera or shaken it a lot - maybe rough roads? there could be a loose connection inside which needs reseating properly. Best done by a camera shop - they have the tools and shouldn't break anything else - at the same time they can check for any sand or grit inside, and if the lens mechanism needs lubricating. Hope this helps - please ask again if you get any more info :)

One thing to test before going to repair, make sure you are using a fully charged and correct battery for your camera.
If so, the camera will need repair. This is a common problem and can be fixed. Teleplan Camera Repair does a great job and their blog is also very informative.

If you're sure you didn't damage the lens flat cable which connect to the motherboard, the focus of the lens unit you bought on ebay doesn't work. You can simply replace the back part (with focus) of the new lens unit with your old one. It requires soldering.
