Dropped my Nikon D50 and now it shows there is no SD card in it and the battery indicator is flashing. Nothing appears on the LCD - including the menu. I've taken the SD card out and the battery and reinserted, but it won't take pictures.

SOURCE: Nikon D50 LCD Display does not work

NatD, The D50 and indeed most SLR digital cameras [ I have a D40 ] does not allow you to take pictures using the LCD display ... this is by design, you are meant to use the viewfinder and the image you see through it is straight through the lens via a mirror block [ called a reflex pentamirror or prism ]. When the mirror is down such that you can see the image in the viewfinder it is obscuring the sensor [ the bit that takes the picture ] and when you take a shot the mirror lifts and the picture is recorded. Its this reason that DSLR's dont use the LCD to shoot, however there are a few now available that do let you do this, such as olympus, new panasonic one and higher end Nikon and Canon cameras. Hope this explains it without getting too detailed!

SOURCE: Dead Nikon D50 in mint condition...

Sounds like a power problem. Try checking voltage of battery and cleaning contacts with a cotton bud and electrical contact cleaner $8 at repco. Had a similar problem with a pentax mini slr. Verdigris (****) on battery terminals is dynamite in low current circuits. If you cant afford contact cleaner use special methylated spirit ( $3.00 at local pharmacy). Good luck Trevor

SOURCE: I took a few pictures with out my sd card in my

You need to use your camera's interface cable and connect it to a computer so that you can download those pictures you took to the computer for further editing.

Also, you need to install your camera's software that will handle the connection between the camera and the computer. The software installer is shipped with your camera.

If in case you don't have the interface cable of the software, you can use a Card Reader and insert your camera's SD Card to it and it will appear in your My Computer as Drive E F or G
