Step 1:
The scrolling feature on a laptop touchpad can take some getting used to, which causes some users to disable the feature. Whether scrolling was intentionally turned off or never enabled on the laptop, it can easily be turned on from the "Mouse Properties" menu.

Click "Start" (or the Windows logo button in Vista and Windows 7) and select "Control Panel." Select "Classic View" in Vista if not already displayed. Double click "Mouse." You may also access "Mouse Properties" in Vista and Windows 7 by clicking the Windows logo and typing "Mouse" in the search box. Press "Enter," then click "Mouse" when the search is finished. Select the "Hardware" tab. Select the touchpad and click "Properties." Click "Change Settings" if the settings aren't displayed. Click the "Device Settings" tab in Windows 7 and select the touchpad. Click "Settings." Click "Virtual Scrolling" in the touchpad properties window. Click the boxes next to each "Enable Scrolling" box and click "OK." Scrolling is now turned on for your touchpad.

SOURCE: How do i get drivers for my touchpad and keyboard

to be frank about this query, windows 7 does not have proper drivers for most of the device, which win XP and vista supports.
it is new operating system and it is still not fully supported by most of the previous versons of windows.
only solution is to down grade your system (laptop) to vista so that it will be compatible.

thank you

SOURCE: Touchpad and buttons won't click on Sony Vaio

Hi,
it could be caused because of hardware failure or software failure, in case of hard ware failure it would be best to call sony tech support but in case of software issue , if you remember the day it was working fine,
do a system restore to the date it was working fine, which will reset your software configuration to the date you know it was working ok, so if it was caused by software issue it will be resolved, but any programs that you installed after the restore date will be lost

to do system restore
reboot your system when you see the sony logo start tapping the F8 key and you will come to a menu here select safe mode and boot and then
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts select the bold date your system was working fine and continue as it guides,

If you think the information i gave you was helpfull please do rate me

SOURCE: I had Windows Vista in my Sony Vaio VGN-FW21L but

You have most likely got no or the incorrect driver for your touch pad.
I would browse http://esupport.sony.com/ and download all drivers that you need.
Hope that helps.

Scroll pad not scrolling on my vaio e series laptop

The computer model VGN-BX540B is shipped with XP OS. Follow the steps mentioned on below link to check of the scroll function of the touchpad is enabled.

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C424522

If it is enabled and still the scroll is not working, reinstall the touchpad driver and check: Dowload the touchpad driver from the below link:(XP)

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNBX540B&upd_id=2000&os_id=7

If you have upgraded the OS to Vista, Follow the steps mentioned on below link to check of the scroll function of the touchpad is enabled.

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C539250

If it is enabled and still the scroll is not working, the issue is most likely to the limitation of the driver which will not work in Vista environment.
At this point what I will suggest is to download and install the Touchpad driver for different model with Vista OS installed in it.

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNBX760&upd_id=2748&os_id=29

As Sony has a model check code for all the drivers, use Universal Extractor to extract the setup file and run it. This will work.

Thanks

Vertically and horizontally finger scrolling on my vaio laptopnw series is not working any more or maybe i have deactivated it,i had a touch pad icon on my toolbar hiden icons before ,but not anymore.how...

Hi sheki_68,

If you have disabled the Scrolling Feature of the Touchpad, you will need to re-enable for the function to work correctly. You can enable the Touchpad Setting from the Control Panel, Mouse Options.
  1. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel .
  2. In the Control Panel window, click Hardware and Sound .
  3. In the Hardware and Sound window, click Mouse .
  4. In the Mouse Properties window, click the Function tab.
  5. To enable the Scroll function, click to check the box next to Use Scroll Function.
  6. Click the OK button and then close the Hardware and Sound window.
This should re-enable the Scrolling Feature of the Touchpad. If the Function is not available in the Mouse Properties window, you may need to re-install the Touchpad Driver in the Computer to fix it.

Good Luck!

Hope this helps.

Please post back if you require further assistance.

give the touchpad a clean, sweat or dirt on the fingers often does this. however, if it persists then the only option is to have the touchpad replaced. They either work or they do not.
