Usually when a CPU overheats it shuts down and after it cools down you can re-boot it again.
Continual overheating will eventually cause the CPU to fail.

The overheating is usually caused by blocked vents and or dust build up on the heatsink and/or fan. Remove this dust from the heatsink and fan and this should fix your overheating problem, unless you have a faulty fan, in this case you will need to replace the fan.

My Amanda dryer model ned4655ew1 shuts down after about 20 minutes. After it cools off it restarts then the same thing happens.

If your Amana dryer shuts down after about 20 minutes and restarts after it cools down, there could be a problem with the thermal fuse, which is designed to prevent the dryer from overheating. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the thermal fuse: Use a multimeter to test the thermal fuse for continuity. If the thermal fuse is blown, replace it with a new one.
  2. Check the dryer vent: A clogged or restricted dryer vent can cause the dryer to overheat and shut down. Clean the dryer vent to remove any lint or debris.
  3. Check the cycling thermostat: The cycling thermostat controls the temperature inside the dryer. If it's not working properly, it could cause the dryer to overheat. Test the thermostat for continuity and replace it if necessary.
  4. Check the heating element: A broken or defective heating element can cause the dryer to overheat. Use a multimeter to test the heating element for continuity.
If none of these steps resolves the issue, it's best to contact a professional technician to diagnose and repair the problem.

Got Dell Inspiron 2650 2002 from a friend, free. Want to restore to factory settings. How? Installed Windows XP and Norton Anti Virus

Hi and welcome to fixya!

There are two ways to restore this machine to factory settings;

First is thru the Recovdery partition in the hard disk itself:

  • 1 Close any windows currently open and click the Inspiron's "Start" button. Select "Shut Down" and choose the "Restart" option.
  • 2 Tap "F8" when the Dell image appears on the screen. Continue tapping the key until the advanced boot menu loads.
  • 3 Scroll down to "Repair Your Computer" and press "Enter" to access the DataSafe local backup screen. Click "Next." Select "Dell Factory Image Recovery and DataSafe options."
  • 4 Click the "Restore without preserving new or changed files" radio button and click "Next." Click "Next" three more times and click "Restart" to restore the disk drive to its original condition. Follow the on-screen prompts to set your operating system settings.

If the hdd was already repartitioned or corrupted, the second option should work:

  • 1 Insert the Dell recovery disk in your Inspiron's optical drive and close the "AutoPlay" window when it appears. Shut down any other open programs. Click "Start" and select "Restart."
  • 2 Tap "F2" as soon as the Dell image appears on the laptop's screen. Scroll to the "CD-ROM" option and press "Enter." Tap any key when you see the "Press any key to boot" option.
  • 3 Press "Enter" when the setup screen appears. Press "F8" and highlight the Dell's hard drive partition. Press "Enter."
  • 4 Follow the instructions on the screen to choose the Inspiron's operating system options. Click "Finish" and remove the recovery disk from the optical drive. Click "Start" and select "Restart."
Hope this helps!

Dell inspiron 2200 won't turn on

Let it cool down.. Put it in the freezer(in a plastic bag for 20 minutes with the battery out of it. Then allow it to warm up for 10 minutes. these laptops are not great at playing games because they overheat..you should get an external graphics card if you get this running again..

Heres a link to a place where you can get a better graphics card
