Check the ground to the fuse/relay box under the hood. I had the same problem on a Le Sabre that I owned. It was the ground but I replaced the hot and ground out and got a pretty new looking fuse box at the salvage yard and all was well.
SOUND LIKE FAULTY OPEN ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR. HAVE CAR HOOK TO CODE SCANNER WHERE YOU CAN SEE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE. IF ENGINE HOT AND CODE SCANNER SHOW LOWER TEMPERATURE LIKE 100 - 80 DEGREES ECT IS BAD.

Unscrew the ignition coil(s) from on top of the module...(leave plug wires attached)....and set aside noting coil position on module....unplug module and replace with a known working module. If there is grease under old module...transfer it to new module.Replace coil(s) and start her up. TIP. While you are there, why not also change the crank sensor (if it not new).....it is THE trouble maker on these engines.
3.8 engine you drain out coolant.remove serpentine belt and coolant hoses from water pump .then you remove pulley bolts then water pump bolts. then clean gasket surface be careful dont scratch the surfaces up.put in new pump. toque it to 29 ft the long bolts.torque .97 inch pound for short bolts.
They are almost always located on the bottom tank of the engine's radiator.
They can have one or two wires (some are grounded to the tank and require only one) and are generally cylindrical with a hex section near the mounting surface to installation and removal.
You will need to catch the coolant when removing it and don't forget, it's a pretty large quantity of liquids.
When I have been in doubt whether one was defective or not, I have attached leads to monitor continuity and heated them in a container on the stove with a candy thermometer in the same water to watch the temperature rise.
If OK, they should contact at some value below 212 degrees F.
