My 1998 chevy tahoe with 5.7 Liter, 4X4 Automatic is hard to start when the motor is cold, runs good & starts ok when it is warmed up. Acts like it may be flooded. I've replaced the fuel pressure regulator & fuel filter. The fuel pump has been replaced about 16 months ago (twice). There isn't any fuel pressure in the lines after it sits for a short time, where is the fuel pressure draining to? Thought it might be the check vavle in the fuel pump, or the seals in the fuel injection module. I have a 5.7 liter Vortec and takes two maybe three cranks to start. After warm starts every time. I have recently replace fuel pressure regulator and did not help. Any advise, thanks
Replace your MAP sensor(manifold absolute pressure) the map sensor is the computer for your fuel pressure regulator telling how much pressure. Unless your tahoe runs like **** going up hill than it inevitably your fuel pump
I have a 99 chevy tahoe 5.7 vortec 2wd 156,000 miles hard to start after sitting for a while acts like it might not be getting enough fuel changed fuel pump 1 yr ago fuel filter 5 months ago along with plugs and wires any suggestions
I have a 1998 tahoe 5.7. I had the same problem of hard cold start, I changed the map sensor, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, fuel filter, distributor, spark plugs/wires, and still had the same problem. I finally changed the scfi fuel injectors to the mfi fuel injectors and now it runs like new. Starts in half a crank and runs great. so Im guessing that the injectors were clogged. If u dont want to changed out the injectors because the OEM injectors cost around 72 dollars each then buy the whole kit like me for $350. Or u can buy a fuel injector cleaner with a hose and valve that screws right onto the fuel purge valve and start the motor, make sure u pull the fuel pump relay so the fuel pump isnt running so that the fuel injector cleaner runs straight in to the fuel system and cleans the injectors the right way.

Allot of fuel pump issues is just the power wire connector at the top of fuel tank outside of tank $7 part EZ FIX!

Hello, yes the check valve is in the fuel pump assembly. The check valve is leaking and the pump will burn out soon. Unfortunately the aftermarket fuel pumps can be very unreliable. A good portion of problems we see on this site are from people who replace the pump sometimes twice and it still doesn't work.

thankyou,I will try it
My 1998 Chevy Tahoe starts hard when cold. The starter will just crank and crank. I have to try it several times to get it to start. Once it starts, it no long has starting problems for the rest of the day, and runs just fine.
I would have put my money on it being the IAC (my 97 does the same thing)
