I tried to set it to run on the 4 hour delay cycle and it never came on. When I press anything, the start light flashes 3 times. Nothing happens. I saw one suggestion of hitting high temp wash and heated dry several times in succession on another post but on my model it's the same button! I've only had this dishwasher for 3 months.

The problem is usually attributed to water supply temperatures being too low when filling. Apparently, there are some issues with the temperature sensing circuits in some dishwashers that causes an error code to be generated if a certain water temperature is not achieved in a specified time interval (this time may differ between models). There is a reset sequence that you can try to clear the fault. Push the NORMAL WASH then HEATED DRY buttons in that sequence two to three times. The unit will enter diagnostics mode, but can be stopped by pressing the CANCEL button. This will clear any existing faults and should return the dishwasher to normal operation.

If the reset procedure (those buttons you pressed) didn't work, it's because the machine is still reading a fault. It could be a few things... water temperature too low (indicating a bad heating element), partial blockage of the drainage hose, or something preventing the spray arm from spinning. If letting it sit for a while allows it to start again, I suggest you do that. It will stop again and the lights will start blinking. When it does, open it up immediately and see how much standing water there is. If there is a lot, look for a blockage in the drainage hose. That's the most likely, I think, because it makes sense that it would work again once the water slowly drained. If there isn't much water, then see if the water that is there is hot. If it's not, then it's the heating element. Checking for movement of the sprayer arm is a bit trickier, as it won't be moving while the thing is open. Though, if the first two are not the problem, there's a good chance that is. Or, of course, it could be a malfunctioning control panel giving false errors. There's really no way to test for that, unfortunately - but I don't think it's acting like that is the problem.

The cleam light blinking means that the unit was not able to reach a proper heated wash cycle. Either your heating element failed orthe actual sump/pump motor system has failed. Check the element in the botton and see if it looks broken anywhere. If you can see a broken spot, you will k now that is the trouble.
Good Luck!
