actually the sound driver is not supporting properly just reload the sound drivers.if you dont have your sound card drivers.just insert your sound card number in the google website you will get the drivers in a minute.just download the exact card driver which you have and after downloading the driver install it in your pc. and then check out it wiull work properly.also check out that the head phone pins are connected in proper sockets of the pc.

For a Compaq Presario C765TU Notebook PC running Windows XP, audio drivers would be for Conexant High-Definition Audio (sp32823.exe). Importantly, SoftPaq Number SP31994, "Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA)Bus Driver for High Definition Audio," (or later) must be installed onthe notebook before installing SP32823.

You should be able to download those from HPs website.

have installed XP in Compaq Presario 707TU Laptop. I have configured audio as below. Install Microsoft UAA sp31994, then install High-definition audio driver sp33443. But I get the error message "Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this driver."...
