Goodman with 2 thermostats, freezes in summer, no heat in winter

We have a goodman unit in a home that is one floor with a finished room over the garage. It's model no. GSH130601AB, heat pump, cooling and heating, split system. The builder put in 2 thermostats, one in the main part of the house and one in the frog. If we set the upstairs thermostat during the winter, we don't get heat downstairs and visa versa. During the summer it's the same issue except our unit sometimes freezes. Can anyone help us to resolve our heating and cooling issues?

Is the system zoned? if so maybe the zoning control board to the damper motor is wired improperly. when a system freezez its because of 1- restricted air flow across coil, (maybe dirty filter) or 2-low refrigerant charge. again could depend on how its zoned.

you need a 24 volt tstat, recommend a 2 heat 2 cool for maximum efficiency. not totally familiar with goodman products but it looks like this unit is communicating compatible but that's an extra dollar sign! Best Wishes.

What is going on with our Goodman unit?

If your going to pay that much just have them put in a new unit. It is not that much more and you can get free financing. All the repairman can do is guess and keep putting in new parts till it works. Had a new unit put in and it still didn't work found out it was a bad thermostat. But at lest we don't have the repair bills or high electric bill anymore so it paid for its self in saved money.

Where can I find the specs for an earlier Goodman heat pump?

You say 2 to 3 years... I'm assuming the unit is older than that. Especially being r22. What about the first 10 years??? Normally you will get 400 to 500 sqft per ton of cooling, but, that depends on heat load calculations. If the unit wasn't big enough you would have had this issue 10 years ago, not when the system kept running low on refrigerant. At first guess I would say a 2 ton unit is not big enough but if it worked fine for 10 years...wuth all that in mind, if it were me, (a seasoned professional) I would spend 1800 to fix my 15 year old r22 unit before I spent $4000 on a new r410a piece of junk. Best Wishes!!

Goodman ck36 1b a/c. Capacitor replaced 2 years ago. Unit is 13 years old and thermostat is Honeywell, also 13 years old. This summer there seems to be a 3-5 min delay (from when thermostat registers call)...

If you have a AC unit with electric or gas its doing what its supposed to do, let the pressures in the system equilize before starting again, If you have a heat pump its doing it there as well you just have not noticed. Anti cycling is a good thing, 4 to 5 minutes is normal.

Goodman A/C unit

look in your local yellow pages under air conditioner distributors for a local goodman distributor. A local company installed it but they all buy from a area distributor. call them with the previouse owners name and they may be nice and give you the name of the guy who installed your unit it is under warranty. be persistant good luck

Electric furnace runs but won't shut off on heat setting

I would insist that Sears either have a Senior tech come out and fix it or return it to the state it was prior to them touching. Then call some one else. Have them involve the Goodman rep in your area.
