Are you even getting the pre-Windows Menu? Sometimes you have to try all the F keys (F1 through F12) one at a time while booting, until you find it. It is normally F2 or F8 or F11 or F12. Once you find it, select the restore option. Be warned that this will delete any documents and files you have stored. You might try the "recover to a previous date" option 1st. If the restore or the recover does not work (corrupted or missing) you will have to get the recover CD's from Dell.
Yes, this sounds like the traditional black screen issue, but it's
different! This machine is a Dell Dimension 3000 with XP. System won't
boot. After Blue Dell BIOS splash screen with F2 & F12 options, it
just goes black. There will ultimately be a white cursor in the upper
left hand corner. I can edit BIOS with F2, I can get in to the boot
menu with F12, but I can't do anything after that. I can even get in to
the Safe Mode menu (F8), but it never boots.
Hi! Welcome to www.fixya.com.
Removed your power cable and drain power without any power. restart and keep on hitting f12 to get to the boot menu choose ODD then put the OS CD then press enter until its say press any key. If it did not work your other option is reboot and hit f1 or f2 to change the boot sequence on boot option. Restart pc then hit f2 go to boot option and choose DVD/CD to be your first boot option then press f10 restart and it should load automatically.
Hope this resolution fix the problem on your computer.
