No Picture Purchased Sharp Aquos 42 inch 1080i in January 2006. Recently the picture has been slow to come on when I turn the set on. Today it just stopped. Teh sound is on. The backlighting is on. there is no image. I have tried the dvd and the cable box. Same result. Called the cable company to troubleshoot the cable box. It is fine. Any suggestions. is there a component that has burned out?

I doubt that your component has burned out. You may be looking at a repair issue here even though your unit is only 3 years old IF: you have tried connecting using different inputs, OR if you cannot bring up your sharp menu, or you list of inputs. If you cannot do those following things, you have a SERVICE issue on your hands and unless you purchased and extended warranty with sharp, its useless calling them. They will just tell you tough luck, and refer you to one of their authorized service centers. good luck

I have a Sharp Aquos 52" LC-52LE810UN. I turned the tv on and assuming that my cablevision box is working, what do I do in settings or other aspect of the tv to make the 1080i work. I have another box...

Actually the cablevision box determines the 1080i. Once it is set on that box the television simply displays it. The cablevision box will have to be connected to the television with component cables or one hdmi cable in order for you to be able to choose 1080i on it. Usually there are resolution numbers on the side of the cable box that tell you if it's on 480, 720, or 1080. There is a red light next to the one the cable box is displaying. If this is not the right kind of cable box for that then you will need to get another one from Cablevision or just eliminate the box entirely and run the cable straight to the television. Yes you can do that and use the television's digital tuner for a beautiful, crisp picture. After removing the cable box and screwing the coax cable onto the back of the television you will have to press the input button and scroll up to TV and press enter (use a Sharp remote). Then press menu and scoll over to setup and down to CH setup. Then scroll to CH search and begin searching for the available channels. You will now use a Sharp remote to change channels.

How do i change from 480i to 1080i on a sharp 52"

You don't. The TV picture will be fuzzy when watching a program in 480. If you have a lot of video in 480 or 720 you can get an up scaler. They are expensive, but that is the only way you'll ever get a Hi def picture from a low resolution signal

Picture goes black then comes back on showing the 1080i window in top right cornner.does the frequently.

The set top box is the problem.. The settings need to be adjusted. There is a set up or hd setup menu in your set top box. It will ask you what ratio screen 4:3 or 16:9. Choose 16:9. It is going to ask you what resolution you want. Choose 1080i fixed and be sure to disable any automatic resolution detection. This is what is causing the black outs. Also disable any 4:3 bypass setting.
