You`ve mentioned that ON CERTAIN CHANNELS THE TV WORKS FINE, so your trying to say that not all channels THE BLACK SQUARE APPEARS IN THE MIDDLE O THE SCREEN... my be that black square is generated from the broadcast center. may be your unit is good. let me ask you how many channels that your tv works fine..?
U have the tv original remote wright?Yes.Used ur tv remote look for a button that said CC.Pushes a few times make sure all like CC1,2,3 so on to all off.The black square box show up in the middle of the tv screen, numbers and printting words on the screen it is are call Close Caption for the hearing impair person to read, will disappear from the middle of the tv screen.
It Captioning 1,2,3 and Text 1,2,3 still on functioning.Check ur remote have a CC button press that button turn off all the Captioning like 1,2,3.Go into the menu look for captioning turn it all off,all the captioning like CC1,2,3 and Text 1,2,3 all to off. These black boxes, will not appear again in the middle of the screen.
The functions of the Captioning 1,2,3 or Text 1,2,3 is still on.Go into the tv menu turn off all the Captioning like 1,2,3 to off and Text 1,2,3 to off. Will not have anymore black box flash on the middle of the tv screen.
It is most likely related to the Closed Captioning option on your TV. Go into settings and make sure that CC is turned off, or make sure it's set to CC1. What you are probably seeing is the "text" option included in the CC options.
look for a button on the remote that says " cc " your closed captioning is turned on, probably in the text mode. turn off the close captioning and your black box will disappear.
Go into your customer menu to closed caption and turn off the "text" mode... What you're seeing is a text box from closed caption but unless you have that additional service it will just me a black square...

I had the same problem once with my RCA television. It only happened on certain channels and didn't happen during commercial breaks. If I adjusted the volume on the tv the box went away, but came back shortly after. The problem ended up being some malfunction in the closed captioning. I turned it all off and changed the CC settings and never had the problem again.
if your big black square starts about the middle of the tv & goes down close to the bottom, you have closed caption text turned on. normal closed caption is small, but test caption, is just a big black box with no writing in it. go into your menu & shut it off, it could even be a button on your remote called, "caption", or "cc".
good luck.
