SOURCE: where are the convergence chips and resistors

There are none in that chassis. You can get the convergence option missing repair kit at the following link and the kit contains the parts and CD with instructions. www.tvrepairworld.com

SOURCE: sony projection tv convergance trouble

Replacing the IC's and the checks you did usually solves the problem.

Double check your wires - especially the R,G and B convergence wires going to the CRT necks - I've had them mislabbeled from the factory b4 and that really throws you off.
Was there any change in symptoms once the IC's were changed and do you have the negative and + supplies feeding the IC's (usually around 30VDC)
If you have the manual, have you tried service menu convergence adjustments?

Philips magnavox 55" rear projection tv problems

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

Changing the CRT coolant

There's a forum here. A little way down the page is a post with a pdf attachment describing the process for changing the coolant. It's tedious and messy but not too difficult. (When I was a road TV tech I did these changes in about 90 minutes.)

In a nutshell the process is to use a turkey baster or suction bulb to remove most of the old coolant from the chamber attached to each tube. Then remove the chamber, clean the tube face and chamber surfaces. Replace the chamber, refill the coolant, then touch up any convergence as necessary.

The pdf gives a good detailed procedure. Replacement coolant is available from several sources. I deal frequently with MCM Electronics (www.mcminone.com).

Good luck with the project. It's well worth the effort when you see the picture after you're done.
