Like the 360, the PS3 also has problems. This problem is known as the SoD (spin of death). In this the lens of your PS3 stops working. Sony is the best one that can help for this kind of error. Best to stick with them, or if your retailer has an exchange policy, ask for a new PS3. But my local dealer fixes this up for 125$. IMPORTANT - DO NOT OPEN YOUR CONSOLE YOURSELF AS THE WARRANTY THAT SONY PROVIDES WILL THUS BE VOID!!!

Try the DVD-disk in some other computer, to see if the disk is the problem in _more_ than one computer.

Try some other DVD-disk in your computer, to see if your Sony drive can read _any_ DVD disks, i.e., if _NO_ disks can be read, then it's time to replace the drive.

CD ROM

The drive has NOT been able to read the directory of the disk you put in.

Possible causes:

Disk may be a DVD which your drive may not be able to read.
Disk may be a DL DVD (double layer) whcih your drive may not be able to read.
The disk might be a BluRay which your drive may not be able to read.
Your drive may be defective or have a dirty read head.

Why does it read bad disk? i've tried two disks, that work perfectly on another DVD player. But reads as Bad disk on the GPX D2816

its the disk laser sensor is to sensetive that why it canot reads with an ordinary disk or a pirated disk or a disk that has a small scratch.

Dell Inspiron E1505 CD/DVD Drive reads only dell disks.

If the driver didnt fix your problem, your disk drive might be faulty , maybe the problem is on the disk drives lens this is very common problem 2 any other cd/dvd rom drives.

1. CLEAN THE LASER. ALWAYS DO THIS FIRST. MOST TIMES THIS IS ALL YOU NEED TO GET YOUR SYSTEM BACK RUNNING A 100% AGAIN
