No sound from speakers when in rear speaker port

The sound will work if we plug only the green jack into the headphone plug in the front of the computer. When we plug the yellow, black, and green jacks in the back, no sound comes out.
The sound had worked up until we took it in to a shop for a virus scan. After we came home, hooked it up, and there has been no sound since.

Front 4 usb ports and microphone and headphone jacks don't work but the rear usb and speaker jacks do work. I've had the computer new since 2009 and they have never worked.

it sounds to me like the wires from the front panel connectors are not connected to the motherboard inside the computer case, open the case up find the front connectors wires inside and find out if there are any connectors on the motherboard to plug them into.
the reason the rear ones work is because they are soldered directly to the motherboard.
good luck.

Can't get the headphone sound working from the laptop

The Laptop has 3 Ports on the side- Pink,Green,Black
Pink Port is LineIn for an external device player jack

Green Port is LineIn for the Microphone jack
Black Port is LineOut for Headset or External Speakers jack

Plug the Green jack on Headphone - into the Black Port on the laptop.
b) Go to Control Panel and open - RealTek HD Audio manager
On the top of Page are 3 Icons -

One Icon is labelled Speakers One is for Digital optics, one is for Mic,
The Speakers Icon is misleading as it is also for Headphones (LineOut)

Select Speaker Icon and make it Default. Also tick Full Range - Front LR
Ignore the 4 vertical Analog Icons on the right side.

You should now have Headphone sound if your volume is not Muted.

click start control panel on the left select hardware and sound then select manage audio devices then recording you should see a microphone right click select enable windows 7

click start control panel on the left select hardware and sound then select manage audio devices then recording you should see a microphone right click select configure speech recognition then

you will see earphones with a speaker among a list set up a microphone headset with microphone then next and next again you should see your earphones with microphone being configured

click start control panel sounds and audio devices select advanced there might be a tick in the mute box untick it or select audio from the microphone drop down list

make sure you have the right one selected and in the volume box make sure the microphone box has a tick in it or

select the voice tab

make sure that you have the right media selected also

select volume make sure the box for microphone has a tick in it

or you might have to depending on your operating system
Click start Control Pannel
click on Hardware and Sound

click on Sound
then you devices should come up ; speakers, Digital Audio, and headphones

plug your headphones in
then select headphones

at the bottom it will say set as default
select that!!

then when you disconnect your headphones it automatically switches to the speakers and when you plug them back in it automatically will switch to headphones

Hope this helps.

No sound from headphones. Speakers work. Win7

Please clarify, Where is the Headphones connected? Front or back? if you tried it on the Front port without success, Plug in the speaker jack to the port where you did connect the Headphone and verify it's working or not. You can also try the headphone on the port where the speaker is connected.

Awaiting.

I have installed the z 640 but I get no sound at all

  • Verify that all cables are plugged in correctly. Make sure the rear and/or center/sub audio cable is plugged in to the correct port. On most surround sound cards, the rear audio port is black, the front audio port is green, and the center/sub audio port is orange. If you do not have a surround sound card, make sure you obtain the proper adapter (discussed in the next paragraph) or use surround sound emulation if your speaker system offers it. If you are not sure if you have a surround sound card, please check with the manufacturer of your sound card for details.
  • Make sure your sound card supports the same amount of channels as your speaker system contains. For 4.1 systems, it should have a front and rear speaker jack on the card. For 5.1 systems, the card should have a front, rear, and center/sub, output. The card should be properly installed and configured. Please contact your sound card manufacturer for details. If you do not have a surround sound capable sound card, you can use the M3D button on the controller unit (if you own a z-560 or z-540) or use the source selector switch (if you own a z-5300 or x-620). If you do not have any of the models above, you can use an adapter to split the signal for the front and rear speakers. This type of adapter is a 3.5mm male to 2-3.5mm female jacks. You can purchase this adapter at your local electronic store. Please refer to your manual if you do not know if your speaker system can emulate surround sound.
  • Try connecting the speakers to a portable sound device such as a walkman or portable CD player. Plug the speakers into the headphone jack, but make sure the volume is lowered so the speakers are not over powered. You can do this for both the front, rear, center/sub speakers to verify that they work. If the speaker system works on the walkman, then you are experiencing a configuration issue with your sound card. Please contact your sound card manufacturer.
  • Check the system Volume Control located in the System tray. Make sure that the volumes are at a reasonable level and are not checked for Muting.

Using headphones

You can get a set of speakers that has a headphone jack on front (it will shut off the speakers when headphones are in) or you can unplug the speakers and plug in the head phones. Some PCs have a red and green jack in front - plug in headphones to the green, you should have the speakers shut off till you unplug. All else fails they make a headphone/mic extender that sits like a hockey puck on the desk, has cables to the mic and speaker jacks on back of the PC and on the puck part has a jack for speakers, mic and headphone - some switched manually by you, some switch when the headphones plug in. If you had posted the model I could see if your machine has front red and green jacks.

No sound output from rear speaker jack

Plugging headphones into the computer will disable sound output from the sound card by design.
