How to detach plastic tray to replace a CDJ-700s DWY 1069 Lens?

I bought a DWY 1069 lens so that I can replace the lens on my
Pioneer CDJ-700s.
I am quite new to opening up this CDJ, but my lens is skipping like crazy so this is a last resort.
I took the cover off and saw a plastic tray with 3 screws, i removed the 3 screws but saw that the plastic tray was still attached to something without any screws, can someone tell me what the next step is?
I dont want to break the CDJ, if anyone out there knows please feel free to contribute, thanks in advance.

There are actually 4 screws. If you can only see 3 then this means the pickup (DWY1069) is already exposed and you do not need to remove the tray.

From here, detach the cable to the pickup (lift the small dark brown cable lock) then loosen the screw on the holding the slide next to the stepper motor and remove the screw at the other end of the same slide. Then the pickup should easily come out.

CD wont spin so player cant read it. Looks like all other features are working.

Not sure, but it may be related to the optical assembly... it´s always about the optical assembly lol... Does it display any error message?
It can also be something wrong (bent, broken, too much dust) with the blinds-like mechanism where the CD lays down (closed when lid is opened, opened when the lid is closed). So if it can´t "see" the disc, either by a problem on both mechanisms, the spin motor doesn´t starts.

Liberty electronics on ebay have now the ultra-rare DWY1067 optical assembly. Have a check at the sticker on the back of your 700s player, above the barcode. If it was manufactured until 2000-2001 you´ll probably need a DWY1067. After that, you´ll need a DWY1069.

Pioneer cdj-700

Probably your optical unit is worn. If you 700s are the newer ones, it'll be easy. Unscrew the 4 black screw under the unit to release the cover. Is the optical unit is exposed, check the label over it. If it says DWY1069, you'll only have to replace it, readily avaliable on ebay. It can be found very cheap ($15-$25).
If it says DWY1067, you have a big problem like me. 1067 is out of production. Check my other posts on how i'm trying to solve it.

Pioneer cdj 200 wont read discs

Hi, try cleaning the lens with a cleansing disk. if this doesn't produce results, it will confirm a major issue within the lens assembly. you will need to replace the lens assembly in this case. it is unable to track or read in this damaged sate.

Pionner CDJ700S Lens, DWY1069 replace the DWY1067?

Hi Marcelo. I´m from Brazil, same CDJ-700s, same problem as yours. From what I´ve researched until now, DWY 1067 an DWY1069 ARE NOT FULLY INTERCHANGABLE on CDJ-700s and maybe 500s. I think some newer 700s already came out with 1069 from factory, so this is why all this misunterstanding. On older 700s that came out with 1067, some SMD components must be changed in the mainboard in order to 1069 work properly. Mine came ou with 1067, I´ve replaced it with a 1069, didn´t worked well (sound skipped, or didn´t play at all).

In 2001 Pioneer released a replacement kit for this situation. The kit is named GXX1200, and includes the optical unit (DWY1069) which is included in the whole mechanical unit (DXXsomething, depends on model), and SMD resistors and capacitors for replacement. Dirty job, I know...

Since I already bought the replacement 1069´s, I´ll buy the SMD components too. I´ll let you know if will this work. Not an easy task, but I´ll try.

Here you can check the whole kit:

Pioneer cdj 700s

Does it show the error number ? Something like "E 9101", i don't remember the code exactly. If so then it's 99.9% that it's a mechanical problem. You can try shaking the turntable, or dissasemble it and try to open the lens doors, just don't break them!

Cdj-700s

Hi Je remy
I have a 700s too, it´s showing problems similar to yours. Mine is even worst, it almost doesn´t play no more (shows "NO DISC"). Sometimes, when i turn it off and on, or open the cover, it reads... When pause is pressed, it holds the music for some seconds, then it "slides" thru the music... Sometimes it display an error message (something like E-8something).
I think all these errors are caused by a worn optic reader, but i´m not sure. I´ve already opened my unit and cleaned the lens, but no bail.
Here in Brazil a new optic reader can be found for R$150 (around U$90). I´ve just found out the same unit in UK for 150 pounds, so i´m suspicius that those units sold here aren´t really new... I´m planning to replace mine, but first i must be sure that the problem is really caused by the reader.
I don´t know if u have already opened yours, but it´s pretty simple to replace the unit, just some screws to loose (12, if i´m not mistaken - 4 ouside, 4 holding the lens protective cover, and 4 holding two inox sticks where the reader slides over). 700s´ units are Part No DWY1067, and you probably won´t find those anymore. You´ll only find the DWY1069, originally found in CDJ-100s (technically almost same, but probably some newer technology), but they´re totally interchangeable.
Hope could be of some use.

Cdj - 700s

Error 9102 is a disk read error, and you either have a damaged reader or there is something seriously wrong with the tray unit causing the error. Troubleshooting is not that simple for this unit, you will need a multimeter, and possibly an oscilloscope to trace the error. More than likely, you will need to have the tray replaced if the error persists.

Cdj 700s

Error 9101 is a read/tray error. More than likely your reader/pick up tray is faulty, and will need to be replaced. For the CDJ700, cost for a new pick up assembly is about $75 - and not an easy fix. Lots of stuff to remove first. Kinda like a car. To get to 1 section, you have to remove 3 others.

Hope this helps.
