I have a computer that has been sitting for about a year (it was working fine when put in the closet) I am now trying to hook it up for my daughter and when i turn it on (it sounds like all is working fans, power, ect) it put the monitor into sleep mode. I have tried two different monitors and it does it to both.... I have tried turning it on and then doing the safe mode thing but the monitor screen is black so i can see anything to see if it is working...... HELP PLEASE ....

    TO ROCKITMAN187,

Like I said in my question I tried the safe mode thing but the screen is black and in sleep mode and I can see anything to change anything. I have tried this on more than one monitor so I know it's not the monitor.

Go to safe mode, select boot in vga mode.

If this allows you to start,

Click start,Run type desk.cpl
Screen Saver tab | click on Energy
Under desk or office settings frame, set all values to "never".
Then click
Advanced Options, you'll see a frame asking you what to do.
Just select the options to turn off sleep mode.
check that out.

If you can't start this way,you need to try another monitor to change the setting above.

Please rate this a fixya

  • Anonymous Feb 14, 2009

Only thing that i can think of until you can get it up and running is to try a new video card. There really is no other option out there sorry

Monitor works fine until the sleep mode and then it goes blank. I have to unplug the power button and it does work again

It seems it is a motherboard battery problem. It most likely is not the monitor which is in "sleep mode", it is the computer itself.

When you cannot get a computer out of "sleep mode" by any other means, typically the cause is that the button-cell-type battery of your computer, which is located on the motherboard, is empty. When your computer detects this battery is empty, it goes into a low-power mode. The solution is to replace the button-cell battery on the motherboard of your computer

Lg flatron w1952tq goes into power saving mode on boot computer works fine on other monitor. Running Kubuntu linux.

your LG monitor is bad then if you put another monitor on the computer and your getting video. Just as a last resort, you might want to put the LG monitor on another computer and if it stays in sleep mode then you know for sure at that point, the monitor is bad.

Monitor Goes into Power Save Mode

old post 2017, 1 year old. Desktop and very old monitor.
This old monitor is CCFL and those fail super easy now.
built in 2005, backlamps are mostly dead now.
VGA cable? or DVI#1 or 2 port connected
the monotor told you PC went to sleep mode
I believe it. I bet the monitor works on any other PC you try, I bet.
so put the PC VISTA in into presentation mode.
(like we do with presentations, or kiosk mode, or using a nice DLP projector in theater)
just one app does this below
or learn to use
control panel, + Power settings, and advanced.
turn off all sleep modes, all hibernate modes.
turn on all wake-on modes, for sure USB ports.
make sure device manager is not showing dead devices (chips) if it is , that means get the missing drivers from Dell, for VISTA. Dell has them on your support page
and we are not DELL.

HP 2338H Monitor Goes into Sleep mode and I have to power comput

you meant w2238w , right, you left off the w?
circa 2006 monitor, 11 years old.?

if the monitor fails on 2 PC, the monitor is bad ! ok, do that...
then
push the monitor menu buttton, connected to a running PC.
if the OSD is dead, , (on screen display , menu button front of monitor)
that means the monitor is dead, CCFL tubes are bad.
cold cathod florescient laml tubes all day this old.
the menu button can be in lock mode, hold the button for 10 seconds, and it unlocks
then go in the OSD screens if they work,. and turn off the sleep timer.
this timer is marked in the OSD as power saver,. turn it off.
it is a time clocked feature, and a pain to use on modern PC.
your PC does sleep modes today and never us this timer, inside monitor (default is on, turn it off)
all that is on page32 in your manual,

Sharp light turns green thern turns yellow screen goes black

it is going into sleep mode, good luck with this.... i am currently asking how to get my hard drive to quite putting my monitor into sleep mode.

although it hasn't worked for me because my screen stays black, one of the options given to me is to try to start in safe mode and then adjust your settings to "never" on the energy/sleep/hibernate mode

some one else suggested that i remove and reseat the video card

hopefully one of those will work for you

Delay in Monitor display once the system goes in sleep mode

Instead of sleep mode, tyr hibernate. It is generally faster except the whole computer shuts down. When you power back up, you're exactly where you were. Mine takes about 30 seconds.

No DVi input, then computer goes to sleep

Hi publicworker,

I had a similar problem whereas my monitor went to sleep mode after a few minutes. I'm running an HP LP 2065 in dual mode with another HP flat screen. However, I did resolve the issue after resetting the output settings.

How to do that:
  • right mouse click on the desktop
  • select graphic options
  • output to
  • extended desktop
Maybe some changings/modification will help you too.
