I have a computer that has been sitting for about a year (it was working fine when put in the closet) I am now trying to hook it up for my daughter and when i turn it on (it sounds like all is working fans, power, ect) it put the monitor into sleep mode. I have tried two different monitors and it does it to both.... I have tried turning it on and then doing the safe mode thing but the monitor screen is black so i can see anything to see if it is working...... HELP PLEASE ....
Go to safe mode, select boot in vga mode.
If this allows you to start,
Click start,Run type desk.cpl
Screen Saver tab | click on Energy
Under desk or office settings frame, set all values to "never".
Then click
Advanced Options, you'll see a frame asking you what to do.
Just select the options to turn off sleep mode.
check that out.
If you can't start this way,you need to try another monitor to change the setting above.
Please rate this a fixya
Ok,it sounds like it may be in presentation mode,Try this
Press the FN + F7 keys 3 time in a roll
If it is in presentation mode,This will take it out.
Then change the setting as posted earlier.
I will continue helping,Until this is a fixya
The shift key is the Function key on desktop pc's
Ok,if you have more than one stick of ram try to re arrange them,If you only have one,Try it in the other slot.If that don't work replace the button-cell battery on your motherboard.

TO ROCKITMAN187,
Like I said in my question I tried the safe mode thing but the screen is black and in sleep mode and I can see anything to change anything. I have tried this on more than one monitor so I know it's not the monitor.
TO : JGWHOMEEQUIP,
Okay well....... I was hoping that would work but......
