Ps3 afterglow headset is making a constant screeching noise

I had it working the first day I got it but recently on Black Ops it is making a constant screeching noise in my friends ears. They mute me cause it is loud. I can hear myself talk but online players say its an annoying screeching sound. I messed with the audio device settings to try and turn the mic level down to one but it didn't help. If I can't find a solution to try and fix it, I am going to have to buy a better headset. Thanks
