Oreck xl 21 fan housing has new design. willit stillfit my older vac

The plastic fan housing broke where the metal tube goes into the plastic housing. from the parts diagram i need #20. It now says there is a new design and its 20 A. It does not have a #19 or # 20 on the order form anymore. Is this new design going to fit my older vac?

It should. You can call Oreck and talk with them and give them the serial number off your vacuum and they can look it up and tell you for sure if it will fit or not.

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG THEIR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The motor has 5 wires to the motor as stated in the Oreck owners manual, tow are for the headlights, one is a ground wire, and the other two are for the motor. There are two screws that hold in the Oreck motor and a good suggestion is to use tape the wires leads and mark the wires so that you will not make a mistake as you take it apart and reassemble the motor. That way you will not make any mistakes, whether or not you have wires for a headlight or not, the rules are the same. Also refer to the owner’s manual schematic and the exploded view. Air flow tube is plugged. I can't get it apart to clean out. It says to press the 2 pins at the base but they don't move when I try to press them, even using pliers.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The tube going into the motor section is to push the pin and then twisted, the lower part get a dust and dirt build up and sometimes hard to remove, give it a shot of WD-40 @ the top and bottom of the fill tube and then repeat the pus in the tab and twist and it should come loose. There are also in the bigger cities the Oreck stores that you can also bring it to as well. If you have further problems or you do not have the strength to do this, bring it to a local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area and it is only a 5 or 10 minute job to remove the tube and to unclog the vacuum. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

SOURCE: formed metal wire inside handle

this bent metal wire goes right at the surface in a grove where the two pieces of the handle go together where your fingers grip it. I think it is to discharge static electricity.

SOURCE: installing roller brush for oreck XL 21

uh, probably not sure what the issue is, but
1. unplug unit.
2. Remove the multiple screws from the bottom of the unit.
3. remove the bottom baseplate (usually black)
4. the brush roll is now visible, and the belt should be around it.
5. Pull the brush roll away from the unit, and disengage the belt.
6. Replace in the opposite order. Make sure that baseplate fits properly to insure a good seal. Also watch the bumper (rubber part that is wrapped around the unit) to make sure it is properly seated.
7. Handroll the roller brush before plugging in. Make sure it moves freely.
8. Run unit, may get a slight burning smell, but if this continues for more than a minute - turn off and inspect the unit. Brush roll requires a short burn in time, on initial build, factory accomplishes this during test procedures.

How do I replace the motor brushes in an Oreck xl upright vacuum? I have the motor out, but I can't figure out what holds the long brass brush holder in the plastic motor housing

im holding an oreck motor as i write this and to the right of where the plastic casing that holds the brush there is a small round plastic piece sticking up, around that should be a metal coil which slips over the plastic piece the theres a piece of the metal wire on one end is the coil the other end is like a hook which hooks into the plastic housing piece causing a sort of resistance, like a spring action. good luck

How to keep my oreck xl bag docking station attached. bought

Put smaller part of bag docking system on first. Seperate it from the other. It has to be pushed on past plastic lip around hole. It should feel very tight. Then attach larger part of bag dock onto the smaller one.

My Oreck XL vacuum does not have enough suction to pick up dirt. Any suggestions to remedy this problem? The belt is strong, the bag is not full, and there do not seem to be any obstructions.

Turn the machine on and be sure the bag expands quickly and fully like a balloon. If the bag does not fill with air, or is soft, there is probably an obstruction inside the handle tube or fan housing. Disassemble the handle to check for blockage, or remove the bottom plate to check the inlet to the motor fan.

Oreck xl 9100 how to replace the fan

Hi,
I just replaced the fan (plastic) on an XL9100. I assume you got the bottom plate off (5 screws).

Undo the single screw holding the suction housing in place.

Remove the two screws holding the motor in place and gently lift the assemble up, being careful not to stress the wires. The motor and fan assembly should now be exposed. If the nut holdling fan in place is removed, the whole fan should slide right off. If it does not, try a little WD-40 on the shaft and wiggle and move from side to side. (I slipped a small drill bit between the motor fan (motor cooling fan) to prevent the shaft from turning when you remove the nut.) Be sure you turn the nut counter-clockwise to remove it.

You should now have the fan off. Reverse the procedure to place the new fan - following the directions carefully as some assemblies need a washer and "feathered" washer on the top.

Assuming everything went well, it should work.

My 9100 sucked a magnetic bearing and trashed the metal fan to where suction was weak. The new fan works great.

Cheers

Bought a new motor but can’t figure how to pull off the metal fan from the old motor. Is it muscle or a trick?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The Oreck fan is generally held on by a nut on the end of the motor and is replaceable, and it usually slides on but over the years it tends to stick on the shaft so you can take like 2 screwdrivers – one on each side and try to lift gently and the fan should come off, if not try some WD-40, and look on the inside of the new fan to see if there are threads that might screw on, if not then it should just side on, make sure if you use WD-40 to wipe off any excess liquid. Check you owner’s guide in the back pocket of the Oreck XL9300 to see any instructions that they might have, or call the Oreck factory to get a new owner’s manual for the vacuum.

So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Older Oreck XL, new belt, new bag, checked for clogs, does not pick up
as it used to, and, much harder to push, seems to grab or drag, why????

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. There are a couple of things that may work. Depending on if you have the old style brushroll you can upgrade to a new style Oreck brushroll that has twice the brushes and will a work a lot smoother. Also, clean the bottom plate – get rid of any dust and dirt build up and then spray the bottom with silicone and let it dry after you have totally cleaned it. Always use Oreck genuine belts and to change the belt every 4 to 6 months for the best cleaning and store the extra Oreck belts in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator, other wise if you have a new belt, gag, you have checked for clogs there is no reason why it should be hard to push, if the silicone does not work replace the bottom plate.
