I have an LG Flatron LCD TV which says it can be used as a computer monitor, and has a 15 point female port marked PC. I have an Acer Aspire 5610 laptop which has an identical port. I bought a connector which uses these ports to make this possible.
When my computer is booting up, the TV (if in PC mode) acts as a monitor until my desktop is about to appear. At that point the TV comes up with a message 'going to DPM mode', and the screen goes blank. The TV manual says that DPM means Display Power Management, and that when the PC is in power saving mode this feature automatically turns of the TV screen.
I don't know what power saving mode is, and my laptop is operating on mains power (not using the battery). I did try removing the battery so that only mains power could be being used. But that did not help.
Is it impossible to use this TV as an external monitor?

Hey jkep
this has nothing to do with power, here is what to do
right click your desktop->
properties->
click the settings tab->
click the advance button->
click the display tab->
depending on your graphic card there should be 2 or 3 different monitors being displayed switch them on and automatically your TV will turn on then you can change the settings to your likings
