Screen clatiry I wsa recently given this TV and the screen has dark spots and smudges on it and I tried cleaning the screen with a damp cloth and some mild soap (recommended by SONY) and I still have had no luck. the screen still has a "dirty" look to it with smudges on it. Should I remove the plastic front screen and clean it? It was stored in a garage for a few months if this is any help?

How to Clean an LCD Screen
So, first of all, let's decide what we don't use to clean it:
Anything containing bleach or ammonia, such as Windex. That will react with the plastic and make the plastic screen become cloudy and discolored.
Anything sharp, pointy or abrasive.
Your easiest choice is one of those LCD cleaning solutions they sell in places where they sell computers. But they're expensive, and why bother when you can make your own solution for next to nothing?

What you'll need:
Distilled water (available at your supermarket; tap water leaves streaks and minerals).
White vinegar (you may substitute isopropyl alcohol; either way, make sure these substances are diluted before they come near your screen).
A clean, soft cloth (never use any kind of paper product).
A spray bottle.

Directions:
In the spray bottle, mix the distilled water and alcohol/vinegar, in a 1:1 ratio.
Turn off the LCD display.
Spray the mixture onto the cloth, never directly onto the screen.
Wipe gently - oh, so gently - from top to bottom. Do it horizontally, too, if you think that leaves a cleaner result.
Let the screen dry before turning it back on.

Hands Off!
Fingers leave dirt and oil smudges that must be cleaned off. Also, every time you touch the screen you risk doing damage to those tiny creatures inside that hold the colored flashlights. Keep your fingers to yourself.

if its an lcd be carefull plastic front layer on them it may have marked the plastic try warm diluted soapy water on a cloth but only damp not soaking or were water is running down the screen.

The screen of a calculator is pretty fragile. If you cannot remove the smudge by gently cleaning with a lightly damped, soft cloth do not try any solvent. I just tried isopropyl alcohol @ 50% per volume on my TI83Plus and it did not hurt the screen.

You can play with the contrast (increase or decrease).
To change contrast you perform the following manipulations.
1. Turn calculator ON
2. Press [2nd] key, then release it.
3. Press Up arrow, then release it
4. Repeat steps 2, and 3, until contrast is satisfactory.

To decrease contrast do as above, pressing Down arrow in step 3.

Be carful with what you use on the screen, a damp cloth is permissable. This does not mean spraying liquid directly on the screen and wiping it

Spray into the cloth or dampen cloth and wring out well. Do not let any excess water drip down the screen especially if it gets into the TV via the outer frame around the screen.otherwise poof it will never work again

Prevent messes by asking family members and guests not to touch the television screen. You should also try to make sure children with sticky fingers do not come in contact with the screen.
Step8
Use a high-end cleaning product if you feel that regular dusting is not sufficient. Top-of-the-line television cleaning products are ideal for use on all HDTV screens, plasma screens, projectors and are safe to use around children and animals.

dark spot could be a faulty led. if you put a program on that is in white screen you should see all the leds light up the screen. dark spot will be were the led is not working. if on white screen and they all lite up but still dark around the area, it could be the lcd screen. and could be dying pixels. and try this video https://youtu.be/wlA2rcrAOCs

Sam it depends on "smudge".
If it's an oily type; then a mild soap, like dawn, on damp, warm soft cotton type cloth may remove it.
There are products found in most large best buy, circuit stores that sell a screen cleaner. It's sold in a small spay bottle, about 2-3 ounces. Always spray onto cloth NOT screen. Always wipe/clean with up & down strokes, NOT side to side or at an angle.
If the screen is smudged after attempts of trying to 'cleanning' a scratch, then only replacing the screen will fixya problem, cost will be in the range of $100.00-$250.00.

usually these are caused by cleaning the screen with a damp cloth or fkuid rear projection tv's usually have two plastic screens separated by about quarter inch with bulbs between,one being a magnified screen.problem is,condensation can occur causing various blotches,letting the screens naturly dry out usually solves this but failing this you have to strip down and wipe them with clean dry cloth.be careful though the inside screen is very delicate.
