You can try to change the resolution settings in control panel>apperance and personalization> adjust screen resolution(VISTA) or control panel>display(or personalization)settings. Try setting the slider as far to the right for the resolution that you can, the screen will flicker and give you the option to keep the settings or change back and a count down timer, if you do nothing (I.E. the screen is completely black) it will automatically (after about 15-30sec) go back to the previous setting.
After you find a setting that seems to work, check the advanced settings, in the refresh rate it should be the highest possible setting (I.E. 60hz) this will stop or prevent any screen flickering. I hope this helps.

Umm if I understand your probably you can't see things clearly on your labtop. If it's what i think it is. Then you need to install video card drivers. Without drivers windows will run in a very basic mode and it's very low end. Depending on the video card. Colors could be very low. Like 16 colors.. and that's not very relistic at all. Also things won't be sharp. And video will play be very jerky type. Public Library computers usually have this.
