Use the Restoration (Recovery) Disk.
When asked choose Full Install. (Destructive Installation)

SOURCE: how do i restore my dell back to factory settings

If you mean BIOS setting, then enter the BIOS, choose Restore Defaults.
If you mean your windows installation, use the Operating System reinstallation CD from DELL (the green CD, for Windows XP). After operating system installed, use your driver CD (usually the blue CD from DELL). If you don't have the CD, please contact Dell support center to get the CD (charges may apply).

I need to restore the factory settings for my Dell Dimension 8770 and I do not have the cd. I do have a D: backup, but dont know how to restore from D drive. Can you help me restore to factory settings? ...

Telephone Dell, but first get the unique Dell asset-tag number from the decal on the back of the desktop. With that number, Dell will ship you a set of "System Restore" CD/DVD disks, via overnight courier.
Use those disks to reinstall Windows.

How do i restore my dell dimension c521 to the way

This is done 1 of three ways depending on how your restore information is stored. 1. After you push the power button start pushing the F8 key and when you get the option screen select restore to previous or restore to factory settings. This method works if your system has a special restore partition still. If you received System Restore Disk insert the CD in the CD player and reboot the system. It will boot from the CD and present the Restore menu for you to make a selection from. Your third choice is to select System restore from the system tools sub menu under the Accessories menu in your program list and chose to restore to factory settings.

Got a computer from a friend would like to return to factory specs and erase verything on c drive

Reboot the computer and on Dell logo press and hold "CTRL" key and tap F11 key. Now you will see option to restore the computer.
This will reset the computer to factory setting.

You need to be good at the timing or else will not able to do it.

Note. If computer was previously formatted then yuo may not able to restore using the option mentioned above. Then you will have to use the Windows disk to install windows.

All the best.
