Cant connect to others or friends due to NAT settings on forza motorsport 3

you need to forward ports on your router. alternatively many routers have upnp (universal plug and play) to automatically do this and the xbox supports this, but some routers come with upnp disabled by default. i would first go into your router/modem and search for a upnp setting and enable it. if this is not possible or does not work here are some sites to help you with the process of configuring your router.
http://portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/XboxLive360/XboxLive360index.htm
http://sites.google.com/site/techhubsite/gaming/getting-an-open-nat-for-xbox-live-with-port-fowarding-or-dmz
here is a list of microsoft certified compatible routers, which likely means they have an effective UPNP implementation and have been tested to support multiple xbox's at once.
http://support.xbox.com/en-us/pages/xbox-live/get-started/connecting/network-hardware-compatible-xbox-live.aspx
if you are using telco or cable equipment you may need to contact them or go to the router usually .1 or .254 on your nat range (ex. 192.168.1.1) and see if you can get into it, often times its user pass admin/admin or admin/password or some such default, i would bet googling your equipment model will turn up a way to get into it.

Linksys wrt54gs changing upnp settings

Hi, you can enable UPnP on a Linksys WRT54GS router by logging in and then clicking on the Administration tab. The first sub-tab is Management, and at the bottom of that page there are buttons to enable or disable UPnP. Click Enable and then click Save Settings at the bottom of the screen.

1st check that your router is xbox live compatable at:
http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/xbox/xboxlive/getconnected/compatiblenetworkequipment/compatiblenetworkingequipment.aspx#routers

Next go to your dashboard, select my xbox then system settings, then network settings, then test xbox live connection. then consult this web page for how to fix the issue:
http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/xboxlive/troubleshooting/gettingconnectederrorslist.aspx

If that doesn't help, I would call xbox live customer service at:

My xbox 360 system won't go online anymore.

1. Enable UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) on your outer.

UPnP is a standard that can help routers communicate effectively together (and may eliminate the need to try the following steps). If your router supports this setting, then you should enable this setting to see if it helps. 2. Enable port forwarding on your router.

Xbox live

Hello!

Yes, the netopia router will work with xbox live. you just have to configure some settings on your router.

To configure your router for Xbox Live try the following steps below:

step 1: Open an Internet Explorer page. in address bar type your router ip address, That should take you to the Netopia's settings page
Step 2: On the menu to left click Firewall, set it to Low and Save Changes
Step 3: On the menu to left click Expert Mode, then Yes, enter Expert Mode
Step 4: On the menu to left click Configure, then Advanced, then NAT
Step 5: Where it says Service Name, scroll the list down to Xbox Live Games, click Enable and then Enable again
Step 6: On the menu to left click Configure, then Connection.
Step 7: In main page scroll down to the UPnP and put a check in the box. then Save

It should then restart the Netopia, and when it comes back on in a few seconds your XBOX LIVE should be good to go. If you are still experiencing problems accessing Xbox Live your Netopia may require a firmware upgrade.
