Take a tissue and clean the area where the toner is. Do not use anything wet at all. Just a soft tissue. Re-install toner and try again to print. If the problem continues, it may be a leaking toner catridge. The cartridge has a cleaning blade built in and it may be deffective. Try a new toner cartridge if so.

My Brother HL 4040cn printer is leaking toner, black and yellow. It leaves spatter spots of these colors on printed pages. The machine does not have any messages. Do you know what this may be from or how...

If you've taken the printer apart and cleaned the belt unit and everywhere else in the paper's path, then it is probably either a bad toner cartridge or the drum. Since it's multiple colors producing splatter, its most likely the drum unit. Try taking the drum out and removing all of the toner cartridges and then clean the drums and corona wires. If its still producing splatter afterward, you've got yourself a bad drum.

Ink is smudged on envelope. How do I stop that from happening?

i bet you're printing in Black,
what happens is when black is selected, the 3 colored drums lift up 2 mm annd only the K drum is engaged, amd there is no static in the transfer belt under the CMY drums.
envelopes have air in them and can bounce along the bely after the black has printed, and seeing the toner is powder and not yet fused on, the toner touches the cyan drum as the envelope hits the fuser entry point as well as dragging on the Left transfer belt Blue lift handle(take out the belt and spring the handle off).
If you open the lid in this print mode, and lift out the cyan drum, turn it over and pull back the cover for the OPC drum, you will see the black toner on the green drum.
FIX 1. In the art work place a tiny dot of yellow. this will run the print mode in color and enagage all the drums. gaurantee your print will be fine, and know one ever sees that yellow dot.Problem is, this then runs down your CMY drums for black only printing.

FIX2.
If you have a later machine, downlaod iQueue from Xante.com (free) fantastic software. and get the machine updated with the latest X1.11 firmware from your dealer.
This allows with iQueue, to set the machine to print Black only, and you run the machine without the CMY drums installed....it works, it's great...

Hi Everytning I print has a very narrow pink line straight down the centre of the page, also every so often the print has a black/yellow/blue/pink thick line running across the page. Thanks

The narrow pink line is coming from your magenta toner/drum cartridge. You may be able to open the from cover and look at the 4 toners. If you look at the magenta (like pink) cartridge, you might see the thin line on the drum surface.
The multicolored band that sometimes shows up on your prints is most likely the transfer belt unit. This is caused by an area of the belt that is not being cleaned very well. This probably tends to show up when you are running mutilple prints of a page.
So it looks like to may need to replace your magenta toner and look at getting a transfer belt unit.

Colored ink is smearing on the page when I print

Did you change the toner?Developer unit? When did it occured?

FIRST: the copier must be cleaned and vacumed, it may be that toner falls onto transfer section and that causes the problem, you may also have problem with yellow developing unit or drum or transfer cleaning blade.

Yellow deposit

Remove the Yellow Drum unit, Check the drum for any toner. The drums should be clean and I believe a Green color. If you see any toner on the yellow unit replace the unit. Some models have a charge cleaner built into the image units, if that is the case with yours you will see a light blue knob on the front of the unit. Pull this knob in and out about 5 times to clean the units charger this may correct the problem without replacing the yellow image unit.

Oki 5150 color are not print right

You need to replace the magenta drum. Just because there is life left; it's possible it is scratched. Also, take a cotton ball dip in alcohol and wipe the LED's off when the cover is open; those black things that are hanging down from the cover. Also, make sure your drums are installed in the proper spots (magenta in magenta slot). If the toner "rubs off" after it prints... then the fuser is defective.

Spots/Lines on the prints

Take out the drum cartridge (piece with the long green arm) and look down inside the printer for any toner that may be leaking on your pages.

So I understand correctly, you were seeing different color toner on the cyan and yellow rollers?. If so gently clean that side of the roller off. Rotate the white gear on the right side of the toner cartridge back towards you and see if the correct color comes back on the roller. If you were seeing grooves on the roller then they will have to be replaced.

Put the toner cartridges back in and run color calibration.
Press menu/select. Right arrow key until you get to engine. Press select. Left arrow key until you get to service.
Press select. Right arrow key until you get to color calibration.
Press select.

Any other information would be helpful.
