Your request for the exact problem will require a signal injector and use of an oscilloscope or even more test equipment. One possible cause is the contrast set to minimum.

Hello,
This is a common problem on LCD monitors after a few years of use. Because of heat buildup in the monitor case parts called capacitors have started to blow out. When they blow they cause the power supply to fail and not provide the correct voltages the unit needs. If you go to our site at :
www.ccl-la.com we have pictures of what the blown capacitors look like. Open the back of your monitor and look for the blown ones. If you can solder then you can do the repair yourself. Unsolder the bad ones and install new ones. You will need Qty 2 1000uf 16volt and qty 3 1000uf 25 volt capacitors. We have a parts kit for $12.00 I will post a step by step repair guide for you on 11/29/09. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service for $35 plus return shipping. If you have any questions please contact me at below address.
I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Look in the power supply section first for bad caps, post back what you find inside, pictures will help a lot to guide you through, see example of failed monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

simcraft's link was great ! It has pictures showing the dismantling procedure, but the document is in Chinese and so is the web site where it is located. Please remember that some internal components can retain a dangerous charge of electricity for a few minutes after disconnection from the ac outlet. Wait at least 5 minutes before attempting the disassembly. Try to find the service manual for any other LG LCD in your language and read the safety procedures - they are pretty much the same for all models.
