Furnace runs on heat, air conditioner does not

I have a ruud ultra series central air unit and landlord does not have the owners manual. landlord thinks the cenral air unit should run on heat em saver setting but does not. we think the furnace is running off straight electricity since the central unit is not kicking on. when i turned the ac unit on as running in ac mode, the ac untit runs fine, but when i turn it back to heat, no matter what setting i put it on, the ac unit does come on. is this how it is supposed to be?

If this is a heatpump system the outside condinsing unit should be running when in heat mode for better heat and energy cost the em heat or aux heat should only be on when the unit can not keep up with the heat demand in the house so there is something wrong

The only time the outdoor Ac unit runs when u set thermostat to heat is if u have a heat pump thermostat n system . If u do have a heat pump system n only your furnace runs n not the outdoor system it could b that the outdoor thermostat is not closed due to outside temp is below 35 deg. Or the outdoor thermostat is bad. This problem will need a qualified tech onsite to continue with the diagnostic

If you have a Gas furnace in the Attic then the answer is yes. The outside condenser will not run if in fact you have a gas furnace.

I have a Ruud UAKA-037JAZ central heat and air unit (Silhouette 11 gas furnace). When I turn the thermostat to heat the heat does not come on. I removed the front panel and there are 2 green lights lit up...

Need furnace model number. It sounds like you're looking for a standing pilot. Your furnace might not have one. Very likely to have a spark ignition type system or hot surface igniter.

From the Isolator panel, how do I connect the condenser, and the blower?

MOST UNITS NOT HEAT PUMPS  WIRE UP WITH 2 WIRES TO CONDENSER RED WIRE AND WHITE . WHITE GOES TO COMMON C ON FURNACE AND RED TO Y TERMINAL OF FURNACE Y ALSO GOES TO Y ON TSTAT. BOTH YELLOW WIRES MUST MEET AT Y OF FURNACE.  WHITE FROM STAT TO W   GREEN FROM TSTAT TO G AT FURNACE IF YOU HAVE C ON TSTAT HOOK UP BROWN WIRE OR BLUE FROM COMMON TERMINAL WHERE YOU HOOKED UP CONDENSER WHITE WIRE AT FURNACE TO TSTAT , MOST THERMOSTATS DONT NEED C RUN FROM FURNACE. THE TWO WIRES GOING TO CONDENSER IS -  AND + TO ACTAVATE CONTACTOR IN OUTSIDE UNIT

My heat unit will not blow hot air unless we go outside and hit a button on the back bottom of the unit. Once we do that it will blow hot air for that cycle. when it is time for it to come on it is cold...

If it does not have a furnace or heating elements for heating, then it is a heat pump, which is rare for a central AC system, but makes sense of the fact that it blows warm air when you reset the pressure switch, which may indicates freon pressure charge problem if your AC system has a reverse valve and uses freon to for heating (heat Pump).

Do you get heating when outside unit runs? if you do, check freon pressure levels and top up to required pressures. The button you depress is a pressure reset switch ... that is if your AC system is a heat pump ... which, as pointed above, it is not common for central ACs.

Fan comes on but unit does not heat or cool the air

You,ll need to open the furnace and observe the led lights on the comtrol board the is a chart attaced to cover. If it is in lock out mode the fan runs. To reset turn off at tstat.the turn the power on at the furnace, set tsat up, observe furnace. First you should hear a small fan then the glow of the ignitor then the opening of the gas valve and flames 10-30 seconds then the big fan.

Ruud 12 seer heat pump not heating

It sounds like the unit is tripping off from high pressure. Check you filter and indoor coil. You may have low air flow inside that is causing the refrigerant pressure to be to high.

Central air conditioner

check the filter also sounds like a low freon charge.
