SOURCE: Acer Aspire 3690-continuously reboots then checks harddisk several times, every time I start this Laptop

First remove any new, or unnecessary hardware, extra mouse / keyboard / monitors / dongles / and even the battery.

Try again, and if possible, get into 'safe mode' by pressing F8.

If it is stable in safe mode, you at least can try removing devices under, START / CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE / DEVICE MANAGER. Then whilst disabling various devices, try booting again into normal mode, and obtain a new, AND correct driver for whatever piece of hardware was deemed to be at fault.

Insert your restore CD if errors are found and not fixed by the checkdisk function listed above. Turn your computer off and then back on. You'll beasked to hit any button to boot from your CD; press any key. You will then beasked if you want to install a fresh version of your OS or "Repair" acurrent copy. Choose the "Repair" option.

ACER ASPIRE ONE

Unplug the computer, hold the power button down until the laptop shuts down, then remove the battery. Plug in the charger, and try powering up. If all is okay, shut it back down, unplug it, and reinstall the battery. Then, plug it in and let it fully charge. Restart it, plugged in and with the battery installed. Good luck.

Shuts down to black screen

Sounds like it is going into Sleep or Hibernation mode.
In Control panel go to Power options and see what the settings are.
Getting out of sleep mode is accomplished by pressing the power button once.

We have a new Acer Aspire one and the mouse is frozen. When I try to turn off the unit nothing happens. How do I free the unit or turn off everything?

As this was posted a month ago, I'm presuming you've solved the problem?
However, when your laptop locks up completely, the mouse won't move and the keyboard is unresponsive (press the caps lock key and see if the caps lock LED comes on or off?)
Press and HOLD the power button for a few seconds until the laptop powers off, Wait a few seconds and then power it on again, the computer may moan that it wasn't shut down correctly, but this is normal (because you couldn't shut down correctly)

I've had my acer laptop for about 2 months. It will not turn on or power up??? Any suggestions on why this is happening?

Sounds like the computer went into hibernation and locked up. Remove the battery, push the power button for 15 seconds. Attach the AC adapter and leave the battery out. Power the computer on and allow it to boot. Once it boots, go to the control panel and go to power options. Once there go to the hibernation tab and disable. Shut down the computer, reinstall the battery and reboot.

My Acer One Aspire is stuck in hibernate. After it updated itself and said it was preparing to shut down, it was stuck in the preparing for shut down mode for hours. When I let the battery run down to turn...

This solution may sound stupid, but it is affective. Try to press really long time (about 1-2 minutes) on the power button of the laptop. wait for it to shut down completely. Then turn it on to see what happens.

What may have caused this is an update of any sort.

Acer Aspire 3610 plugged in closes down

I would suggest you just plug it in and do not power on the laptop for a few hours. Then try. If it persists reboot into safe mode and disable hibernation then reboot

Laptop will not power up

Try removing the battery..then attempt a power up. make sure there are no USB devices connected as well. Take some time, it happened to me, it was caused by a non USB compliant lamp! The machine would not start at all.
