If it's not under warranty, I would advise taking the face plate apart and checking for burned spots on the board and using compressed air to remove anything that is conductive that may cause a short in the face plate. The face plate should be really easy to take apart.

My Alpine CDE 7872 faceplate goes blank intermittently, the unit still functions, just can't see what station you are on, what track, volume, etc...

is the faceplate detachable? if so remove it and clean the metal contacts on both the din unit itself and the faceplate with rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab or Q tip.

if it is not a detachable face, then i would say an internal solder joint is starting to come loose, that is an older alpine model number after all.

My display stays on for about 3 seconds then it turns off until

Hi there,
If this model has a detachable faceplate,
Remove the faceplate and clean down the contacts with metho and a cotton bud.
Over time usually corrosion and dirt etc builds up on these terminals making them loose cotact when you touch the faceplate.
This is the most commonly known problem alpine units.
Other common problems is the power supply failing /amplifier.
Hope this helps you out
Cheers

Pioneer deq 7600 display went black today the eq works fine.

the faceplate contacts may need to be cleaned. remove the faceplate, and using an eraser, clean the metal tabs on the main unit and rear of the faceplate.
If this doesnt remedy the problem, service is required. May be the light unit in the faceplate.

I recently purchased an alpine CDA-9884 two months ago. The past couple of days now none of the functions work on the face, it plays cds but you cannot do anything but turn the volume up or down, you...

Not to sound very obvious, but it honestly just sounds like there is a connection problem between the faceplate and the unit. I would first try using some electrical contact cleaner and cleaning the contacts, installing and removing the faceplate a few times and see what that does. I hope this does something for you. Let me know if I can be of more assistance.
